Dear Farzaneh, All, Since you mention elections, one question that needs an answer would be who is eligible to cast a vote? The group needs to develop a mechanism to ensure that all votes received are from genuine people who are interested in the Space. Certainly Fahd. Some groups have in their processes that only those who have been a member of the group for over 6 months can cast a vote. If that makes sense I think we can easily establish who has been a member of the group (member of this mailing list) for over 6 months. We actually held an election a few years ago. We don’t have thousands of members to think about a complex process and I think it would be good process wise and for the continuation of the co-chairs work to hold an election since we have many people who want to step up. Dear all, I looked back and looked into our processes because we did have these conversations back in 2018 about the election of the co-chairs. In 2019, during the ICANN ME space there were amendments to our charter which was proposed (Nadira shared on the mailing list) which specifies that in case of having more than two candidates, for the co-chair position we need to have an election. See attached. I also looked at what we did in 2021. At that point we were fresh out of Covid, wanted people to step up so we allowed all the three candidates (there were only three to be a part of the leadership team) but now we have more than three candidates interested in these positions. Then it seems like we continued the tradition in 2022 which we accepted all the 3 nominations. Note that in all these circumstances we only had 3 candidates. So I think this time we should not deviate from the charter and revive the good custom of having an election. The election form can be sent to the people subscribed to the mailing list. I encourage the other nominees that put their names forward to also submit their Statement of Interest and ICANN staff to help us hold an election. (the document suggests that if the current leadership wants to run in the election then ICANN staff should govern the process). In the future, if we see necessary we can have three people as co-chairs and modify the charter. But again if more than 3 people nominate themselves there should be an election. I looked back and looked into our processes because we did have these conversations back in 2018 about the election of the co-chairs. In 2019, during the ICANN ME space there were amendments to our charter which was proposed (Nadira shared on the mailing list) which specifies that in case of having more than two candidates, for the co-chair position we need to have an election. See attached.
I also looked at what we did in 2021. At that point we were fresh out of Covid, wanted people to step up so we allowed all the three candidates (there were only three to be a part of the leadership team) but now we have more than three candidates interested in these positions. Then it seems like we continued the tradition in 2022 which we accepted all the 3 nominations. Note that in all these circumstances we only had 3 candidates. So I think this time we should not deviate from the charter and revive the good custom of having an election. The election form can be sent to the people subscribed to the mailing list. I encourage the other nominees that put their names forward to also submit their Statement of Interest and ICANN staff to help us hold an election. (the document suggests that if the current leadership wants to run in the election then ICANN staff should govern the process).
In the future, if we see necessary we can have three people as co-chairs and modify the charter. But again if more than 3 people nominate themselves there should be an election.

We actually held an election a few years ago. We don’t have thousands of members to think about a complex process and I think it would be good process wise and for the continuation of the co-chairs work to hold an election since we have many people who want to step up.
