Subject: [NA-Discuss] Re: Nomination of Waqar Ahmad for the NARALO NOMCOM rep.

Hi Everyone,

First, I sincerely thank Glenn, Mohibul, and Rookayya for nominating me for the ALAC Delegate to NOMCOM position. I truly appreciate your support.

I hold a Master of Engineering Degree in Computer Networks from Toronto Metropolitan University, along with certifications in network security, cybersecurity, and the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential. With over 10 years of industry experience at national and international levels, I currently serve as a Senior Delivery Specialist at a leading service provider in Canada, specializing in Network and Internet infrastructure. Moreover, I am pursuing advanced studies in Data Science and AI to further expand my expertise.

Affiliation:

Within ICANN, I actively contribute in the following capacities:

  • Represent NARALO on the North American Community Advisory Team (NA-CAT) for the FY26-30 ICANN Regional Engagement Plan.
  • Served as a volunteer member of the NARALO Drafting Team for Universal Acceptance (UA) Day 2024.
  • Participate in the ICANN Policy Accelerator Program, deepening my understanding of policy development processes.
  • Regularly attend CPWG and OFB-WG calls to stay engaged in policy discussions affecting Internet end users.

Beyond ICANN, I am involved in key Internet Governance and technical communities:

  • Volunteer Team Lead under VSIG, collaborating with Glenn on an innovative translation project.
  • Member of the Internet Society Canada Chapter and IEEE Toronto Section.
  • Active contributor in IETF and ITU working groups, including the U4SSC initiative.
  • ARIN 52 Fellow and engaged participant in ARIN PPML discussions.

Motivation:

My journey in ICANN began with fellowships at ICANN 79 and ICANN 81, where I gained firsthand insight into the roles of different constituencies and developed a strong interest in policy work. This experience motivated me to enroll in the ICANN Policy Accelerator Program to deepen my policy knowledge and actively participate in CPWG and OFB-WG discussions to advocate for the best interests of Internet end users.

As I became more involved in ICANN’s ecosystem, my understanding of its diverse communities expanded. If selected as a NomCom Delegate, I will promote diversity and inclusion in leadership selections and will identify candidates who genuinely understand the challenges and priorities of the global Internet community within the scope of the ICANN mission.

Regards,

Waqar Ahmad

MEng, PMP
