Thanks, Glenn.
Too bad the article is so unhelpful.
From its very start, the "defence" of multistakeholderism (in its current forms) is pompous and devoid of evidence. His critique of Mueller is shallow and full of unproven assumptions.
Twenty years after multistakeholderism helped save the Free Internet and
present-day Internet governance from a potentially existential crise [...]
Saved it?
From global spread of rampant misinformation?
From entire state actors engaging in cyberattacks on enemies?
From acceptance of phishing and other scams that have bled countless wealth out of well-meaning users?
From preventing the arbitrary government blockage of the Internet for political purpose?
From enabling societal levels of non-consensual privacy invasion?
From stopping interrefrence in democratic processes?
From having transparency in social media recommendation algorithms?
From keeping AI accurate and respectful of intellectual property?
Yeah, right. Saved, that's the word. Sheesh.
We have not had internet governance. We have had a smattering of well-meaning technical bodies, trade associations calling themselves multistakeholder, and an IGF that believes in the righteousness of talk-without-action for its own sake.
"Obvious miracle" my eye.
