Please keep me posted. I guess that it will be me (at least if I'm
reappointed) to have to convince ICANN's COO and CEO, if not the entire
Board, that this event deserves $100-150k of additional expenditure.
Especially, we should work out on a compelling case on why such an event
would be particularly useful; shaking hands and socializing among such
diverse people would be a good thing, but on the other hand discussions
are already quite pointless and relatively ineffective in the meetings
of 15 ALAC people plus a few from one or two RALOs... just imagine with
100 RALO representatives from five continents in the same room. Such a
meeting is absolutely doable, but it would require a clear agenda, clear
procedures, clear deliverables and clear objectives: it needs a well
thought out plan.
On another matter - it occurred to me that Avri Doria, the GNSO Chair,
is now living in Lulea (in Sweden) and working on networking and
education opportunities for the Sami people, who live in Scandinavia
beyond the Arctic circle (well, beyond if looking from where I live). I
guess that the Sami might share many challenges with the Inuit; I don't
know whether you met Avri in San Juan, in any case it might be
interesting for you to get in touch with her.
Regards,
