They are brand new organization and as such they have not done any events but seems to be a very promising organization and they seem to be committed to supporting the concerns of individual Internet users' and we think would make a good addition to NARALO. The organization is chaired for by John Laprise a NARALO member. The ALS criteria team is still working on creating new criteria for ALSes and also on what will be required so we are still using the old process. This application and the due diligence that was conducted were done under the old process and the old criteria. I have attached this application to you for your review. I would appreciate it everyone could review this document and send me any comments or thoughts on this new ALS by August 19. Hi All As Judith has pointed out that John LaPrise has been an Unaffiliated Member of NARALO but he has formulated a valuable US based organization that serves as it`s mandate the protection of the end-internet users. This is a space that is ignored by ISOC and other groups and it has alot of potential to grow and prosper. We need to recognize that it`s in it`s infancy and overtime it can play a significant role in helping raise awareness in the US on Internet issues I support the application Glenn McKnight Glenn McKnight mcknight.glenn@gmail.com skype gmcknight twitter gmcknight . Currently there is no procedure for suspension of an application or for asking the applicant any questions directly, but all these are great ideas for the future as we are currently revising the ALS Criteria. Hi All, While I completely respect the and understand the opinions expressed against accepting the application, I know John personally and have been familiar with his work for some years. I'm certain that his organization will grow with in a short amount of time, and in fact make a positive and valuable contribution. Thus, from my vantage point a forward looking perspective would lean towards accepting the application. I admit to not being the most knowledgeable person in this discussion about the implications of this, so I will pose 2 questions: Can his individual membership be terminated if the organizational one is accepted? and what is the downside of allowing this? -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: [NA-Discuss] Seeking Regional Advice on the application of a new ALS The Association of Internet Users Date: Mon, 8 Aug 2016 13:19:45 -0400 From: Judith Hellerstein <judith@jhellerstein.com> <mailto:judith@jhellerstein.com> Reply-To: judith@jhellerstein.com <mailto:judith@jhellerstein.com> Organization: Hellerstein & Associates To: NA Discuss <na-discuss@atlarge-lists.icann.org> <mailto:na-discuss@atlarge-lists.icann.org>
HI All,
We are seeking Regional Advice for a new ALS, The Association of Internet Users has applied to be an ALS in NARALO.
When you write me, please state the ALS you are representing and if you support or oppose the addition of the Association of Internet Users to become an ALS in NARALO. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best, Judith Hellerstein NARALO Secretary

As far as I can tell, every previous attempt to form an association of Internet users has failed. This one will, too. But if they're willing to do some of NARALO's work, they are at worst harmless, so you might as well let them in. R's, John
I agree that the Applicant has set itself an ambitious target. I also agree with John's point, and so long as the paperwork meets the criteria I would err on the side of inclusion. On 18 August 2016 at 17:39, John R. Levine <johnl@iecc.com> wrote:

I support this application. I have met with and spoken to John many times and he is very serious about this work. He has been much more active than some of our already chartered organizations. If it meets the criteria, I have no concerns. Many of our groups have only two contacts, this is an ongoing struggle volunteer groups face. On 8/8/16 1:19 PM, Judith Hellerstein wrote:

ISOC Quebec is glad to welcome the Association of Internet Users in the NARALO. It meets the «old» criteria. It's a new player with the right profile to support our work. Louis Houle President ISOC Quebec Louis.Houle@isoc.quebec Le 2016-08-08 à 13:19, Judith Hellerstein a écrit :
