Report on the OneDay AtLarge workshop
Dear all, Please find attached the Report on the ³OneDay ALAC/AtLarge² workshop that took place at the ICANN New Delhi conference. -- Regards, ICANN At-Large Staff email: staff@atlarge.icann.org
Dear all, Is anyone else concerned with the gross misrepresentations in this report? In the section "Working Group Activities (Policy discussions and statements from this meeting)" it states: "The ALAC working group on WHOIS is setting the task to propose a way that suits both privacy of data and accountability of registrants. We have set the goal of drafting a position to be presented on the ALAC meeting in Paris on June. For that purpose we will ask the ALS`s their thoughts and position in order to fulfil our duty as their representatives. It is mandatory for said task that we rely on translation of documents." When reading the above one gets the impression that a whole bunch of busy beavers have actively been engaged in substantive list discussions and have developed a cogent plan of attack to deal with a vexing issue. Yet having reviewed the WHOIS Working Group discussion list, all I see is a total lack of discussion (except for the occasional random comments of Jeffrey Williams). There is no position being drafted -- there are no WG member comments whatsoever in this calendar year; there has been no outreach on this topic to ALSs and there have been no documents translated. Is it really necessary for this OneDay document to distort the obvious truth that this WG is a sham? What noble purpose does that serve? Wouldn't it be far more honest to state that no work whatsoever has been done? One also gets the impression from the document that a Domain Tasting Working Group exists. Yet a review of the archives shows that "No messages have been posted to this list yet, so the archives are currently empty." Having read the numerous prior ICANN Status Reports submitted to the DOC that reference ALAC activities I am used to a certain degree of dissemblance on the part of ICANN Staff, but what are we gaining by putting out reports that do little more than put a positive spin on what amounts to gross non-performance on the part of ALAC WGs? --- At-Large Staff <staff@atlarge.icann.org> wrote:
