Discussion of North American Strategy
Hi Folks On today's webinar on the CROPP program the various RALO's mentioned that their regions have a Strategic plan. They also said that these plans are alligned with the their regions VP's plans ie. LAC and AFrican, Middle East strategies. We broached this with staff asking why North American has opted not to have a North American plan. Staff to followup Currently we have a CROPP outreach and engagement strategy for CROPP and if North America chooses to have a plan we need to discuss this in detail. I was wondering the same thing. In fact, have you heard anything from the ICANN NA VP ever? -ed On Fri, Dec 2, 2016 at 11:35 AM Glenn McKnight <mcknight.glenn@gmail.com> wrote:

I'm not sure what you mean by me being wrong in this case. We cannot make them do something they decide not to do. But as I said and you are saying, we should discuss it with them with the potential for changing their minds. Alan At 02/12/2016 04:29 PM, Judith Hellerstein wrote:
HI All,
Yes Glenn and I have mentioned this several times and asked why we do not have a plan and the answer we have gotten is that Global Stakeholder Engagement doe snot think we need a plan. I tend to disagree. Allan's response on the call when it was brought up was that NARALO can not make GSE do something they are not interested in doing. I also disagree with that statement . I think we should directly ask for a North American Strategy document how does GSE plan on increasing engagement in the Lower Income areas, in the vast student population, with disadvantaged communities, with Indigenous communities, with people with disabilities and special needs. I would like to have that answer.
These are just some of the things I would like to see in a strategy

Hi All We have tried to have better communication with Joe and Chris as to events they are doing and we also had a meeting with him in Morocco on NARALO issues. Perhaps we should be coaching this discussion in more broader terms vs only the regions strategic plans. One story. I spoke with David Vvorst at Washington DC to be a speaker on multistakeholderism at one of his events and the answer was quite simple. Sponsors have preference. Funding to buy a seat at the table is an issue. G Glenn McKnight mcknight.glenn@gmail.com skype gmcknight twitter gmcknight . It is truly sad that nobody considers the existing strategy of NARALO to actually perform its bylaw-mandated agenda, and perhaps enumerate the fields of policy and public-education expertise in which it wishes to exhibit leadership. This is not just an exercise in the theoretical: A US congressman has taken aim at ICANN based on a campaign of misinformation. That campaign seems to have no answer, according to the RALO in the appropriate region. NOTE: this congressman is still in power, and the newly elected US administration appears sympathetic to his views: Meanwhile, a major rift between the GAC and GNSO threatens ICANN at the very core, and if it doesn't resolve well there will be nobody to care about -- let alone fund -- NARALO's little outreach efforts. WHAT LEADERSHIP IS NARALO EXHBITING TO ANSWER THIS? Or even to inform its ALSs on these issues? The events unfolding around us demand that this is not the time for more sustained navel gazing. A shopping list of disadvantaged groups to whom do outreach to is an absolute waste of effort and money if there is no clue what to do with all them once they are brought together. A case could easily be made that all this emphasis on outreach is a smokescreen to hide the utter vacuum of policy interest here. NARALO used to produce more policy inputs to ALAC than the other RALOs combined. And it didn't need a bloody strategic plan to do so.
