Information and communication technologies (ICT) have social, cultural, political and economic implications. Technological advancement, a key principle of IEEE and its member organizations, can have different meanings in different contexts. ISTAS 08 will showcase and generate discussion about the design and development of ICT and how they connect citizens, groups and communities, as well as the challenges and wider implications of connecting with ICT. ISTAS 08 will also address the broader topic of ethics in science and engineering. ISTAS 08 will provide opportunities for exchange between people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to meet, including researchers and students in engineering, computer science, social sciences, arts and humanities, community-based researchers, policy makers and technology user communities. The conference organizers and hosts at the National Research Council invite you to join us at ISTAS 08 June 26 - 28, 2008 for discussion, debate and reflection. We look forward to welcoming you in Fredericton. Please visit the ISTAS 08 web site for more information (link <http://istas08.ca/index.php/Main_Page> ).
