SPOTLIGHT ON UNIVERSAL ACCEPTANCE |
|
|
Outreach on Addressing Universal Acceptance |
12:30-14:00 CEST (10:30-12:00 UTC) Zoom 5
People around the world are excluded from experiencing the full benefits of the Internet simply because they’re unable to use a domain name or email address in their language, script, or character length of choice (e.g., .рф, .PHOTOGRAPHY). The Universal Acceptance (UA) of all domain names and email addresses is crucial to enabling consumer choice online and supporting a more inclusive Internet for today’s users and the next billion people coming online. Are you interested in knowing how we reach technology developers, systems administrators, and influencers about the benefits of being UA-ready? Today, join the Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG) for a working session that will provide an overview on the outreach efforts of the UA Ambassadors, Local Initiatives, and Communications working groups. These groups will also discuss the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on outreach activities and how to engage more effectively. Before the session, check out the UA Readiness Report FY20 which provides an overview of recent outreach efforts.

REGIONAL FOCUS: ASIA PACIFIC |
|
|
Contributing to DNSSEC Deployment in the Asia Pacific |
Recent statistics show that the Asia Pacific (APAC) region is catching up fast in Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) deployment.
Read more here about what DNSSEC is and why it is important.
ICANN’s measurements note that 58.47% of APAC ccTLDs have signed DNSSEC, ranking second after the Europe region (77.3%). Across the world, 56.17% of ccTLDs have currently signed DNSSEC. DNSSEC validation in the APAC region has also increased in the past 12 months, led largely by the Oceania/Pacific region (source APNIC, generated on 10 September 2020).
ICANN org has been working actively with the community to achieve this through engagement and technical capacity building. Since the establishment of the ICANN Asia Pacific Office, ICANN has delivered over 100 DNSSEC training sessions in the APAC region. ICANN org will continue to work with the regional community in this key area.
To learn more about DNSSEC deployment, join the DNSSEC and Security Workshop at ICANN69 on Wednesday 21 October. Click here for more details. |
