Dear GNSO Stakeholder Groups, GNSO Constituencies, ICANN Supporting Organizations, and Advisory Committees,
I am following up on the previous message in November 2020 seeking your group’s interest in participating in a scoping team to address the topic of accuracy. Several of you responded expressing your group’s interest as well as putting forward specific names that would represent your group in such an effort, for which I would like to express my appreciation. I know some time has passed since, but the GNSO Council took the necessary time to further develop and agree on the instructions for the scoping team.
As you may be aware, the Council formally adopted the formation of and instructions to the Accuracy Scoping Team during its meeting on 22 July 2021 (see https://gnso.icann.org/sites/default/files/file/field-file-attach/registration-data-accuracy-scoping-team-formation-instructions-09jul21-en.pdf [gnso.icann.org]). As a result, I am now reaching out to you to ask you to (again) confirm your interest in participating, and if so, to confirm your representatives to this effort. The composition of the scoping team is as follows:
The work assigned to the scoping team requires a breadth of experience, skill sets and talents. Representatives are expected to possess a mix of quantitative skills, experience, privacy legislation acumen, data quality expertise, ICANN contract knowledge, and policy perspectives. As you consider which members to assign to this effort, please make sure to review the instructions [gnso.icann.org] to the Scoping Team.
As a reminder, this effort is about scoping the issue and identifying potential follow up work – it is not about developing policy recommendations.
Please note that although the work of the scoping team is not expected to commence its work until the EPDP Phase 2A delivers its Final Report to the GNSO Council (currently scheduled for end of August 2021), we would like to request you to confirm your members by 25 August at the latest so that the group can hopefully make a running start. In the meantime, the Council will also start a search for a Chair for this effort so please look out for that announcement as well.
Best regards,
Philippe Fouquart
GNSO Chair
