NPOC,
the ICANN Not for Profit Operational Concerns Constituency, in
co-operation with the Pathfinder initiative, is pleased to
invite you
to participate in a live session and webinar:
Why
the Domain Name System on which the Internet is based is so
important
for Civil Society organizations
(alternative:
ICANN:
The Domain Name System and NGOs - How and Why Should NGO's Get
Involved
Type
of Event:
Looks like it should be a live event but with a large
emphasis on a
webinar character. The reason is that based on feed backs
that
besides logistical travel challenges, many CS organizations
are
reluctant to be present on Internet related live events.
(see
restrictions on Internet use).
It
would be great to have a good strong local partner, how can we
secure
him? Also who could act as a sponsor for the event
Rationale:
Civil Society, the Internet's largest stakeholder group, are
increasingly dependent on how the Internet and its underlying
Domain
Name System, (DNS), operate in order to carry out their work.
The
event will directly address important issues, NGOs using the
Internet
are confronted with and provide solutions.,
Place: Marrakesh
Time:
Saturday
Program:
1)
Welcome
2)
Setting the scene: World premiere of Infomercial Videos: NGOs
and the
DNS, (Klaus
Stoll,Glenn McKnight)
3)
Why and how Civil Society organizations should and can
participate in
Internet governance
4)
Is my NGO secure on the Net?
5)
Organizations on the Internet: Domain name based website or
social
media, that is the questions
6)
Awareness and Knowledge, the key to an organizations best use
of the
Internet
We
should think also about more relevant topics for the region
and we
should try to get “local” speakers.
Outreach
and dissemination strategy:
Identify
and call up local and regional CS organizations
Follow

Pathfinder

Invitations:
Should
we adapt the following draft:
??????
Did
someone squat on your organization’s domain and demands a
ransom
for its release?
Has
your organization’s good name and logo are used for fraudulent
fund
raising?
Do
you ask yourself how to ensure your organization’s right to
open
and free expression?
Are
you sure how many domain names do you need to register and how
do you
keep them from expiring?
Do
you wonder how to use and protect your organization’s name in
social media?
If
you are a Civil Society organization and asked yourself one of
the
questions above:
You
need to get involved in:
NGO's,
the
Internet's largest stakeholder group, are increasingly
dependent
on how the Internet and its underlying DNS operate in order
to carry
on their work. NPOC directly address operational concerns of
NGO's
using the Internet and the event will also describe how
ICANN
addresses issues and provides solutions.
