Greetings. It seems to be time that we start working to implement the event for NGO's during the ICANN Marrakesh meeting. We had an event planned for Dublin which we could not implement for various reasons but I think the structure and concept of the event is still sound:

Event Structure1:

NPOC, the ICANN Not for Profit Organizational Concerns Constituency, in co-operation with the Pathfinder Initiative, is pleased to invite you to participate in a live session and webinar:

"ICANN: The Domain Name System and NGOs – How and Why Should NGOs Get Involved"

Civil Society and its NGOs, the Internet’s largest stakeholder group, are increasingly dependent on how the Internet and its underlying Domain Name System (DNS) operate in order to carry on their work. The event will directly address operational concerns of NGOs using the Internet and describes how ICANN address issues and provides solutions.

Presentations include"

"NGOs’ day to day concerns using the Internet and how Internet Governance and policy making addresses them" 

"Privacy and how ICANN tries to address the issue".

"Right and Obligations of NGO's on the Net".

"Is my NGO secure on the Net?"

"How to participate in ICANN as an NGO".

2) As an alternative, we could use the following event structure:

"How the transfer of the US Government of the so called IANA functions that concern the Domain names, Internet Protocols Assignments and Number Resources, to ICANN, impacts the work of Civil Society Organizations World wide" (there must be a better way to say this!)

Draft Program:

Welcome: 5 minutes

Introduction: IANA Transition! What does that mean for NGO's? (15 Minutes)

Presentations: Impacts of the IANA Transition on Civil Society organizations

Presentation 1: Increased Internet Security and Stability, (20 Minutes, )

Presentation 2: Increased Internet Governance Transparency, (20 Minutes, )

Presentation 3: Increased Internet Governance Participation, (20 Minutes, )

Plenary Q and A: 30 minutes

Conclusions and Follow up: 15 minutes

Personally, I think the first event structure is the best, but please let us know which you prefer and also who you think we should ask to speak and how we can get as many local and remote NGO's involved as possible. I will also send out soon a doodle pool, to determine the date for a conference call to start planning and implementing things.

Greetings and Thanks for your email. To answer your question: "Yes" and "Certainly". NPOC has made some organizational arrangements that give us the possibility to arrange for events, but this is just the organizational platform. What we need to do now is to put some flesh on the bones. I therefor would like to invite you all to make some recommendation with regard to the topics, rationale, structure and even possible speakers for specific speakers. We should collect these suggestions and then decide on which to implement and how. May I suggest that the deadline for suggestions is the 10th of January 2016 and that we will then arrange for a call to discuss proposals.

I note that the next COP Climate Summit is taking place in Marrakech in November 2016 - a big year for NGOs in the country and broader region.
