Update on ICANN75 Health and Safety
By Nick Tomasso, VP, Global Meeting Operations

As we prepare to gather in Kuala Lumpur for ICANN75, we are planning to maintain the high level of health and safety protocols that contributed to a successful ICANN74. Moreover, some COVID-19 safety measures are required by Malaysian law.

All visitors to Malaysia are required to download, register, and activate the MySejahtera contact-tracing app before arrival. Under Malaysian law, face masks are required to be worn indoors. In addition, those who test positive for COVID-19 while in Malaysia must report their positive result to the Ministry of Health and quarantine for seven days.

The ICANN organization is also making some improvements for ICANN75 based on community feedback. We are aiming to reduce, or even eliminate, the need for session registration and waitlists by modifying the minimum physical distance required between participants.

Policy Work Planned for ICANN75
By David Olive, SVP, Policy Development Support

The ICANN75 Annual General Meeting is a time for collaboration, education, transition, and celebration.

During the AGM, the ICANN community will discuss the accuracy of generic top-level domain registration data, Internationalized Domain Names, Universal Acceptance (UA), and other topics in various stages of policy and advice development. A plenary session, proposed and developed by the community, will explore Internet fragmentation and the Domain Name System.

I encourage you to prepare for these discussions by attending the Prep Week Policy Update on Thursday, 8 September. The ICANN75 Policy Outlook Report will also be available soon.

Whether you are an experienced ICANN community member, an occasional participant, or a newcomer, I look forward to seeing you in Kuala Lumpur or online.

Read my blog for more on what to expect at ICANN75.
