ICANN’s Meetings Technical Services (MTS) team spent the last week unpacking, servicing, and setting up all of the equipment necessary to run our first entirely virtual ICANN Public Meeting. All eight conference rooms in our Los Angeles office have been taken over by MTS, in order to simultaneously run eight separate Zoom sessions. In two of them, we’ve setup sound-insulated interpretation booths, so that our interpreters can connect to a Zoom session and interpret in Spanish or French in real-time. Each virtual room will have two dedicated MTS technicians, who are responsible for ensuring that presenters are able to speak, managing the recordings, and troubleshooting any technical issues that arise. Getting everything ready for our first virtual Public Meeting has been quite the effort, but we’re confident that the prep work we’ve done will allow ICANN67 to run as smoothly and seamlessly as possible. The NextGen@ICANN and ICANN Fellowship program is not taking place as scheduled at ICANN67, but the selected participants are still joining the Virtual Community Forum. All ICANN67 Fellowship slots will be deferred to ICANN69 in Hamburg, Germany and NextGenners will join ICANN70 in Cancún, Mexico, in 2021. The ICANN67 selection and any attendance at the virtual sessions will not count against the program participation limits. Our selectees are excited to join us in the future: “I am really happy about the decision to reschedule our participation for ICANN70. I now have the opportunity to work on my presentation and include more results from my research that is still in progress. Hope to see you there.” Federica Tortorella NextGen@ICANN Program "This virtual meeting is an excellent chance for the first time Fellows to prepare to the next in-person meeting. The community and the Fellowship program leaders always invest a lot of effort into the onboarding process; nevertheless it is very easy for a Fellow or a NextGenner to get lost in the meeting. Remote participation will help the meeting in Germany go more smoothly." Artem Gavrichenkov, Fellowship Program We look forward to seeing the participants soon! Celebrating International Women’s Day By Becky Burr ICANN Board Member On Sunday, 8 March, the world celebrated International Women's Day. This important day honors the achievements of women. As a member of the ICANN Board, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the many important contributions to the security, stability, and resiliency of the Internet that the women in our ICANN community make each and every day. Women have traditionally been underrepresented not only in the technology industry, but in the decision-making bodies that shape policy. I became involved in Internet governance in 1996 and a member of the ICANN Board in 2016. A recent study from Deloitte consultancy <http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001PjVODDzyUiqJugauEi129B9_PgjDua-SkMfdLXX1GtsM-...> showed that women hold just 16 percent of board seats globally, and it could take more than 30 years to achieve parity. I’m proud to be part of a community that recognizes that equality in representation is important. Our ICANN Board is made up of seven women, each from a diverse set of backgrounds, perspectives, and goals. We recognize the importance that our voices make in helping shape policy at ICANN. There have been many pioneering women involved in the creation and expansion of the Internet - women like Radia Perlman <http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001PjVODDzyUiqJugauEi129B9_PgjDua-SkMfdLXX1GtsM-...>, Kanchana Kanchanasut <http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001PjVODDzyUiqJugauEi129B9_PgjDua-SkMfdLXX1GtsM-...>, Dorcas Muthoni <http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001PjVODDzyUiqJugauEi129B9_PgjDua-SkMfdLXX1GtsM-...>, Joyce Reynolds, <http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001PjVODDzyUiqJugauEi129B9_PgjDua-SkMfdLXX1GtsM-...> and many others who have broken down barriers and created opportunities for women all over the world. It’s important that we build on their legacies and help mentor girls and young women to participate in ICANN. The theme of this year's International Women’s Day is "an equal world is an enabled world." ICANN’s multistakeholder model not only invites a diverse set of voices to participate in the decision-making process, it requires it. At ICANN, our global community works every day on the global public interest. We use the phrase “global public interest” because the Internet is a resource available to the entire world. People across the globe have an interest in the technical coordination of the Internet. ICANN helps bring those voices together and equality of representation of those voices is critical.

Our selectees are excited to join us in the future:
“I am really happy about the decision to reschedule our participation for ICANN70. I now have the opportunity to work on my presentation and include more results from my research that is still in progress. Hope to see you there.” Federica Tortorella NextGen@ICANN Program
"This virtual meeting is an excellent chance for the first time Fellows to prepare to the next in-person meeting. The community and the Fellowship program leaders always invest a lot of effort into the onboarding process; nevertheless it is very easy for a Fellow or a NextGenner to get lost in the meeting. Remote participation will help the meeting in Germany go more smoothly." Artem Gavrichenkov, Fellowship Program
We look forward to seeing the participants soon! Celebrating International Women’s Day By Becky Burr ICANN Board Member
On Sunday, 8 March, the world celebrated International Women's Day.
