Call to boycott IGF in Saudi Arabia
Please see the petition against having Saudi Arabia as the host for the 2024 IGF. For me I don't agree to this call. Similar situation came up when Ethiopia was announced as the host of the 17th IGF meeting. Issues of Tigray Region came up strongly. But at the end of it all, the forum brought about the understanding and a new dimension of what it means to open up. The government was so understanding and committed to one or two processes. By the way, the Internet is for all and we as a community need to advocate to all. This is my personal opinion. Hi all, I perfectly agree with Wisdom. We have to be make room to be inclusive but not discriminatory against any country. The Internet is for all of us. Kindly note, this is not to say I support or condemn the alleged human rights abuses. I don't think Glenn was suggesting "we" (as NPOC) would take an official position on this. He wrote "If you run a non profit and passionate about human rights please consider signing the petition". Julf
I totally agree with Wisdom. Personally, I would suggest refraining from discussing or sharing such particular subjects within our group's mailing list. It is my belief that our collective efforts would be better invested in topics that hold a broader and more meaningful interest for all of us, allowing us to work collaboratively towards common objectives. In my view, both the IGF and human rights issues are meaningful topics for the NPOC. We might not all share the same view, but I feel it is still a valid topic to discuss. Julf (in my individual member capacity)
