RE: [registrars] Registrar Constituency Agenda -- LA Meeting
Hi Tim! Thank you! I am rapidly finding out that unless I ask silly questions I will never know! So is this something that DotAlliance should be joining? Does it work well in contacting registrars? I'd like to see a method that will allow a a phishing site to be shut down very fast It also says: "The mailing list now holds representatives from most of the big registrars." So that definitely, probably covers Go Daddy! However, I am greedy and want the lot! And obviously I am only asking... However, the Registrar Operations (reg-ops) mailing list was created for the same purpose. Go Daddy has relevant employees who are members, as do a number of other registrars, and some of the anti-phishing groups, etc.. I would prefer to continue using it instead of starting another contact list. For more info on reg-ops see: http://www.merit.edu/mail.archives/nanog/2006-02/msg00310.html Best, Tim -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [registrars] Registrar Constituency Agenda -- LA Meeting From: "DotAlliance" <helen@dotalliance.com> Date: Tue, October 23, 2007 7:41 pm To: "Nevett, Jonathon" <jnevett@networksolutions.com>, "Registrar Constituency" <registrars@gnso.icann.org> Hopefully I am listed without issue this time on the RCA? I recently received a very helpful call from Patrick Klass who works in cooperation with phishtank.coma Phistank.com is a free volunteer organisation and their efforts are to be applauded He identified two phishing sites using our registrar and with that criteria I was able to identify and delete some 25 such domains within the 5 day delete period! However, his problem is that he cannot contact most registrars and or ISPs to warn them. Emails and phone calls are often a waste of time as the right person is not contacted. Specifically he mentioned problems in contacting Google and register.com. I am certain that all of us are most pleased to receive such information as we all hate phishers and the transaction is almost certainly fraudulent. To this end I would like to submit a request to other registrars asking for contact information (phone and/or email) which would lead to timely response and closure of phishing site. I would like to pass around a contact sheet in LA however please feel free to email me! I will then pass this information only to responsible people and organisations working to remove phishing. Hopefully this is satisfactory to everyone or if someone has a better idea? The format is a bit different for this meeting with regard to Board interaction. We will have two or three Board members with us for the first half of the meeting followed by a visit from Vint and Paul for a wrap-up session. Also, this year we have moved the meeting with the Registry Constituency to the following day. Call-in numbers will be sent to the Voting List next week. Hope to see you in LA. Thanks.
