Dear RSSAC Caucus Members, It is time to begin the selection process for the Outgoing RSSAC Liaison to the 2023 ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom). The role is a one-year term beginning at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting to be held during ICANN75 in September 2022. The outgoing RSSAC Liaison to the ICANN Nominating Committee acts as a conduit between the RSSAC and the ICANN Nominating Committee reporting on matters that need to be coordinated or communicated between the two bodies. The role requires discretion, management skills, and considerable time commitment. 1.2.8.9 Outgoing RSSAC Liaisons Election Procedure One month prior to each election, qualified nominees will be accepted for the outgoing liaison position and announced on the RSSAC distribution list. During the meeting that includes election of an outgoing liaison position on its announced agenda, additional nominations will be accepted, and all nominees will indicate their intentions: to accept or to decline their nomination. In the event that only one candidate is standing for election, the RSSAC may elect the new outgoing liaison by acclamation. In the event that two or more candidates are standing for election, the RSSAC Chair will call for a vote. Members will indicate their selection. A simple majority (half plus one) of the voting members will establish the new liaison. In the event a simple majority is not achieved due to having more than two nominees, the nominee with the least number of votes is eliminated and the voting is repeated with the reduced slate of names. The process is repeated until a nominee achieves a simple majority. In the event of a tie, a runoff election will occur with members indicating their selection. In the event of a second tie, the floor will be opened for discussion followed by a new vote with the simple majority designating the new liaison. The RSSAC Chair will forward the name of the outgoing liaison-elect to the reciprocating body. If a vacancy exists in an outgoing liaison role, the RSSAC will elect a new outgoing liaison through this process.
Dear Ozan and RSSAC Caucus Members, I want to put myself forward to represent the RSSAC on the ICANN Nominating Committee. I believe I am suitable for this position based on my experience and knowledge gained within and outside of ICANN. I am an Associate Professor (Reader) of Wireless Telecommunications. I have over 60 publications in local and international journals from around the World. I have also been representing Nigeria at the ITU since 2015. I have attended all the ITU world Congress since 2015. I am currently a Vice Chairman for the ITU Telecommunication Development Advisory Group (TDAG). I have previous experience in selecting high ranking officers as I was a member of the Interview and Appointment selection committee that selected and appointed the Vice-Chancellor for the University of York, UK in 2012, Vice-Chancellor for the University of Lagos, Nigeria in 2015 and Vice-chancellor for Fountain University, Nigeria in 2016. I am also a Board member for a Microfinance bank in Nigeria, where I have been able to understand the roles and functions of Board members. I have participated in the recruitment process for more than 10 staff members for the Bank. Furthermore, during my time as the Head of the Department at the University of Ilorin, I also participated in recruiting both academic and Non-academic staff members. I also served as the Co-chair for the AFRINIC policy development working group, among other roles. I have attended ( 2ice as a fellow and others as self-sponsored) all ICANN meetings since I was a fellow at ICANN 60 in Puerto Rico based on my commitment to ICANN. I have been very active within ICANN and I was selected by this same nominating committee to be an ALAC member in 2018 for 2 years. Before, during and after my time as an ALAC member, I have also contributed to a number of statements and documents within ICANN. Also as an ALAC member selected by the NOMCOM, I went through the entire process up till my selection. Therefore, I am in a way, familiar with the NOMCOM interview and selection process from an applicant's point of view. I have also served on various ICANN committees and working groups such as Fellowship Section Committe, NextGen Selection Committee, EPDP on IDN, and Community Excellence award Committe among others. Some of these committees are selection committees therefore, I would be able to use the experience gained from these committees if appointed to the Nominating Committe to represent the RSSAC.
