Dear SSR2 RT members, The latest version of the work plan is attached. Please check over and raise any objections or edits on-list by 17:00 UTC on Friday 8 November. As noted on the call, unless objections are raised by the above date, this work plan will be considered to be adopted by the review team, and is the version that will be sent to the Board, SO/ACs, posted to the wiki. Note the intro text to the attached work plan states: “The Second Security, Stability, and Resiliency of the Domain Name System (SSR2) Review Team was confirmed in February 2017 and held its first Plenary meeting in March 2017. Its work was suspended by the ICANN Board in October 2017, and restarted in June 2018. This work plan subsequently was updated to reflect the work of SSR2 Review Team post-suspension, and previous work plans are archived on the SSR2 wiki. This work plan serves as a guide developed by the SSR2 Review Team as a plan for its work for the review focusing on key areas for research and discussion and related milestones to be achieved during the review process. The work plan is expected to evolve with the Review Team's work and will be updated as the work progresses. Dates reflect a typical Review lifecycle, but are to be adjusted by the Review Team, based upon their agreed-upon scope and the effort required to address highest-priority objectives within available budget and time.” Best, Jennifer -- Jennifer Bryce Senior Reviews Coordinator Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Email: jennifer.bryce@icann.org Skype: jennifer.bryce.icann www.icann.org
Dear Jennifer and Colleagues, Please check the percentages on the Research and Studies, it should read 78% While English is not my first language but I am not comfortable with the wording "Inward Facing" and "Outward Facing ". Please let us using wording that refer what has been instructed in our ToR and the Bylaws. On the Research and Studies, we are missing "activities done by the review team on this matter" If we remain silent then we will be missing scientific proof to justify most of our recommendations. This was very critical to identify some gaps in most of the activities carried out by this review. Please let us address the above issues before sharing the document. I 100% agree with Matogoro-san here, I object to "Inward Facing" and "Outward Facing", i think they are inaccurate descriptions of what's in the workstreams, and they are confusing and confounding terminology. Can someone summarize why this change was made?
On the Research and Studies, we are missing "activities done by the review team on this matter" If we remain silent then we will be missing scientific proof to justify most of our recommendations. This was very critical to identify some gaps in most of the activities carried out by this review.
Matogoro-san, I am confused by your use of 'missing scientific proof' here. We are not doing science here. Can you give a concrete example of what you mean? I'm not sure what your last sentence is referring to. What was critical to identifying what gaps in what activities? WRT percentages on the spreadsheet, as I said two calls ago, I'm not in a position to evaluate the "completed" percentages in this spreadsheet, and I believe this is a management function, and we should let our elected management be responsible for it. (Very worried we're spending so much time on meta-work when there is so much work to do and so little time.) k
While I don’t like discussing meta topics any further, I very much agree with you on this point. I’m not a fan of the wording “inward facing” and "outward facing”. And in retrospect, anyone that was not privy to the brief, end-of-day discussion around this change (ie, population of the world minus 10 or 11) would likely be confused and needlessly left scratching their heads. We should revert to the previous wording of ICANN SSR and DNS SSR and get back to working the details. .. Norm

<vice-chair hat on> Hi all, Based on the email support for reverting the work-stream names (per the thread below), and the lack of any objections, the leadership would like to start a 24 hour call to revert the names of the “Internet SSR” to its former title “ICANN SSR,” and “Outward facing SSR” to its former title “DNS SSR.” We are asking for team members to email to the full list any objections to this plan (reverting the names, i.e. state any support for the current/new names, “inward facing SSR” and “outward facing SSR”). We do not feel it would be productive to start new conversations in search of new names, so if you want to keep the current names, please say so by this time tomorrow. Otherwise, we will take the on-list emails as consensus for reverting. This will be codified in the work-plan (a draft of which is attached), so please send email objections if you do not agree to the attached work-plan’s names (highlighted in yellow). Thank you!
