Hi Cheryl and Justine,
Thank you for your patience as we discussed these suggestions internally. You raise an important point in highlighting the areas that applicants will want to be aware of when it comes
to the gTLD application and evaluation.
We believe that many of these topics would likely be covered in the more high level descriptions of pro bono services we solicited in the announcement and sign up form, which already
has a number of sign ups.
ICANN org, in its facilitative role in making supported applicants aware of the services available, will leave it up to the service provider to determine which services they are comfortable
offering, and for the supported applicant to arrange those with the service provider. This is especially important when it comes to services that relate to application drafting, as there is sensitivity around liability for pro bono service providers in this
area and most of the services we solicited were focused on preparing applicants to apply for a gTLD.
We agree that it would be beneficial to both make supported applicants aware of the areas in which they might anticipate needing consultation and to highlight more specifically the
diversity of services that pro bono professional service providers are able to offer. We could, for example, incorporate this into one of our planned “Meet the Pro Bono Service Providers” webinars for supported applicants and ask them if they can speak to
these areas specifically, among others.
There also may be an opportunity for community groups such as the ALAC to provide guidance to supported applicants and prospective gTLD applicants alike on issues they may expect to
encounter in the gTLD application process and where they may want to go to connect with people who have expertise in these areas.
All this said, we’d be happy to set up a time to discuss during an ASP-IRT Sub Track meeting, if helpful. We recognize that many IRT members have fully packed schedules so we plan to
send a general ASP email update in the coming weeks to get a sense of whether folks would like to schedule an ASP-IRT Sub Track meeting.
Kind regards,
Kristy, on behalf of the ASP Project Team
