Hello T/T
IRT members,
As you
know, the T/T implementation has been on hold pending a determination of the
status of RDAP. In light of consultations with our internal and external
project teams involved in the “Thick WHOIS: Consistent Labelling and Display”
implementation, the provision to mandate an RDAP service on the part of all
gTLD registries has been removed from their draft policy document that is
expected to go for public comment within the next few days.
Instead,
our plan for RDAP is to have the service implemented on a contractual basis
(which encompasses all but 7 legacy gTLDs), with an announcement planned for
February 2017 and an effective date of 1 August 2017. Please note this plan is
yet to be confirmed, and therefore tentative.
Bottom
line: RDAP is not “dead”, as some in the community had feared, and—assuming the
above plan moves forward—the implementation will be carried out next
year.
Given
these developments, I think it’s safe to resuscitate our T/T work. You may
recall there was debate within our group on whether the T/T recommendations
could/should be implemented along with the roll-out of RDAP or would be better
suited for RDDS work in other areas (e.g. the Next Gen RDS PDP). We’ll review this discussion in our next call, as well as discuss a plan for our
F2F meeting in Hyderabad, which is currently scheduled for Tuesday, 8
November from 15:15 – 16:15.
I’ll send
around a doodle poll invite shortly for the week of October 24.
Thanks
everyone. Please let me know of any questions. Otherwise, I’ll look forward to
speaking with all of you soon.
Best,
Brian
