UA case studies in 2021
Dear UA Communications WG Members, UA Local Initiatives Leads and UA Coordination Team, The Universal Acceptance (UA) case studies are an important tool to showcase the successful implementations or EAI and UA readiness by the different stakeholders. The UASG regularly publishes case studies that highlight the lessons learned and best practices adopted to resolve the UA issues. In 2021 we would like to ask for you to help identify any relevant stakeholders or organizations that can be featured in the coming case studies in the below categories: 1. An Organization or Business EAI or UA successful implementation Entities that updated their systems to become UA ready or supported EAI. 2. The role of Governments in supporting UA readiness An initiative or campaign lead by a Government agency that supported UA readiness or EAI support. 3. Registry system UA/EAI support A domain registry or a registrar that updated their systems to become UA ready and support EAI. Please share with us your suggestions in the nearest two-three weeks. We're looking forward to working with you to showcase those stories! Best Regards, Maria Kolesnikova Chair, UASG Communications Working Group <mailto:маша@кц.рф> маша@кц.рф | <mailto:masha@cctld.ru> masha@cctld.ru | +7 916 8357605 | skype: maria.sergeevna
Maria: I applaud this initiative to collect case studies. I would like to add one specific kind of case study which I suspect will give us access to a new audience. On 2021-02-20 07:56, Maria Kolesnikova via UA-comms wrote:

If we have any case study from group #1, which involves localisation, I have a use for it. Imagine a company or organisation in one geography, e.g. North America or Western Europe, launching a product or service in another geography, where the writing system is different. Imagine that essential to the product or service is a website and/or some email addresses. For instance, the website might have the name of the product, and give more information about it. The email addresses might be to contact the sales department, the customer support department, etc. Now imagine that the website has an Internationalised Domain name, and/or the email addresses are globally inclusive (EAI). If there is such a case, and if the company is willing, I think that case study might make a compelling presentation at the trade show, Localization World (LocWorld) https://locworld.com/ . LocWorld is a conference for product localisers, translators, and the language industry. The name is short for "Localization World". Multilingual magazine <https://multilingual.com/> is one of the conference producers. LocWorld has a long history. It is one of the top conferences for the language industry. Attendees include the product managers who want their product localised, the translators and localisation specialists who do the localisation, and the tool vendors who sell to the localisation specialists. I think LocWorld does not talk about UA right now. I like having excuses to attend LocWorld. I would be interested in talking to such a company, to see if they want to work together to propose a case study report at LocWorld. I think that having the company who localised as part of the presentation is essential. LocWorld has turned down my proposal to present on UA as part of localisation, without a specific case study. I think they really want to hear from the companies involved in real-word projects, not just encouragements from advocates like me. The message I would want to embed in the case study is, "you may not know about IDNs and EAI addresses, but they exist, and they are a tool which you can use, to help you localise your product or service even better". Come to think of it, such a case study would also make a possible subject for an article in Multilingual Magazine https://multilingual.com/ . Please let me know if any of the case studies which you receive seems to fit this profile. Best of luck with this excellent initiative. Dear Jim, Thank you for the idea and the suggested initiative. That is an interesting case which we need to look at. It would be great to include UA in localization processes. At once, I can mention the cases with such companies as Apple and Microsoft which have implemented EAI support recently although I am not sure whether these implementations were made as part of localization of their products. Thank you! Maria / Jim There are similar efforts in different parts were done in past and are already available in UASG documents including specific case studies of EAI implementation. These could be good starting points and built up from there. On March 30, 2021 8:24:05 PM GMT+05:30, Maria Kolesnikova via UA-comms <ua-comms@icann.org> wrote:
