“Process” is already one of the 5 Verbs Of UA. The current verbiage prevents the term from being overloaded.
I suppose you could change “The tools generally accept domain names as arguments from the command line, and then do something with them, starting by looking them up in the DNS.”

“The tools perform tasks related to the DNS by accepting domain names as arguments from the command line.”

We can use something more precise like “and then do processing them” or something similar.
