I am upset. Until recent times, during the Berlusconi era, we (Italy) were the undisputed leaders in reporting embarrassing actions or speeches by domestic politicians, in particular in the government area. However nowadays, in spite of all the laudable efforts made by the current government, we have to admit that we can only run for silver medal. But we can be creative, and do what happens for football (soccer): we can buy world champions to play in our teams. Would the US mind to lend us Rudy? He even has an Italian last name. He would be the perfect addition to our current cybersecurity expert team and help us in regaining the lost primacy. The term that I am hearing more and more frequently is "TACO" which is an acronym for 'That's Another Code Orange' to describe these events. Setting aside the irony/humor thing, link detection and conversion is a large functionality benefit and productivity enhancement, saving the time of many millions of users the need to copy and paste links from a message or program into the location bar to visit referenced links in communications. This was very clearly a user error thing. On most platforms, Twitter and other programs provide visual indication that it sees a what it thinks is a link or URL. Clearly this is not Twitter's fault or problem, and it could have occurred on ANY platform that does auto-linking. With Respect To the auto linkification: It seems to me that auto linkifying only a correctly formed lower case ASCII domain name would solve cases such as the G-20 example, below. Actually the same auto linkifying principle could be applied to Cyrillic domain names and possibly other scripts that have case. Hi all. I have mixed feelings about linkification but I believe that, if implemented, it should be done without second-guessing or restrictions to the form “*.TLD” - otherwise we take the risk of doing what SW programmer did in the past, and that is at the root of the current UA problems, i.e. making assumptions based on the existing formats forgetting that new formats might be introduced as long as they comply with protocols. Let me give an example. If I can type in a browser g-20.in, or G-20.in, or G-20.In, or G-20.IN, or more variations and still get to the same web site it would be wrong to introduce differentiation in linkification when those do not exist for the browsers. Moreover, the same considerations should apply to IDNs. I agree with you. Making programmatic and algorithmic decisions based on the case of a domain name not only is a path to confusion, but is also misaligned with case folding and other techniques in long use in the DNS. On Fri, Dec 7, 2018, 1:46 PM Roberto Gaetano <roberto_gaetano@hotmail.com> wrote:
