Vision, mission and scope of this group a. Vision: An end-to-end multilingual Internet that users are able to access using their own script and everything just works. b. Mission: Increase awareness of the good practices and gaps of Universal Acceptance of IDNs by identifying, recording and sharing the information with the Internet community. At the same time, encourage the community to replicate good practices and address the gaps to advance the adoption of IDNs. c. Scope: The i18n Project Group will be focused on the IDN ecosystem (IDNA, EAI and IRI) as it pertains to these four major categories: i. Standards (i.e., IETF, Unicode, W3C) ii. Practices (i.e. guidelines established by others) iii. Tools (i.e., apis, programming languages) iv. Applications (e.g. browsers, email clients, other apps) d. Not in scope 3. Collaboration with other project groups: Priority Issues, Community Outreach, Monitor and Measurement. 4. High level roadmap a. Phase 1: Telling the good. In this phase the group should aim to deliver documentation of already implemented good practices of IDN-aware applications. Also, seek standardization of practices (such as internet browsers). b. Phase 2: Telling the bad. Identify the gaps and identify the potential owners to address the issues. Write recommendations for good practices. c. Phase 3: Building bridges. In this phase we encourage developers of all sizes to implement current standards and policies (EAI RFCs, IDNA2008, Unicode IDN guidelines, etc) 5. Action items: a. Working plan for the next 12 months (owners: Dusan and Dennis). Deadline: June 2015. b. Budget (owners: Dusan and Dennis) 6. Other topics a. Day, time, frequency for recurring meetings.
