Update on the TF-AIDN
Friends and Colleagues, The Task Force on Arabic Script IDNs (TF-AIDN) submitted to ICANN last week the "Arabic Script Generation Panel (GP) Document" as part of the Variant IDN Project (VIP). The Arabic script community is the only linguistic community to submit a GP document as shown at https://community.icann.org/display/croscomlgrprocedure/Project+Status+Updat es. After the submission, members of the TF-AIDN were in consensus that it would be wise to provide access to the document and request feedback from the IDN community at-large, and so ICANN obliged to this request. The above website was updated accordingly to provide access to the document and announce the call for feedback. Please disseminate the message across your networks and relevant contacts. The deadline for receiving any feedback is February 12. As a final remark, ICANN tweeted about this from its main Twitter feed (#ICANN) as shown at https://twitter.com/ICANN/status/426211436562370560. Thank you, Fahd Batayneh ICANN

It doesn't seem to have posted it on the main public comment page, though, and I understand the LGR procedure to require that (see section B.3.4.4). Any idea why? A -- Andrew Sullivan ajs@anvilwalrusden.com
Hi Andrew, This is the proposal from the Arabic Script Community to form the Arabic Script Generation Panel and not the proposal of the actual Arabic Script LGR. Confusing use of the word proposal but it refers to two different things. There is no requirement to publish the proposal to establish a panel for public comment, see section B.2.1.1 of the procedure. In the case of the Arabic Community, they wanted wider visibility of the proposal to script community and that is why they published it on the project website. Thanks Naela On 1/24/14 11:23 AM, "Andrew Sullivan" <ajs@anvilwalrusden.com> wrote:

Ah, got it. Yeah, certainly no requirement for public comment there. -- Andrew Sullivan Please excuse my clumbsy thums. -----Original Message----- From: Naela Sarras <naela.sarras@icann.org> To: Andrew Sullivan <ajs@anvilwalrusden.com>, "vip@icann.org" <vip@icann.org> Sent: Fri, 24 Jan 2014 15:14 Subject: Re: [vip] Update on the TF-AIDN

Thank you James for pointing that out. At ICANN, the Wiki space is being migrated to another platform, thus leaving behind many broken links. The new link is https://community.icann.org/display/croscomlgrprocedure/All+Panels+Status+Up dates. Hope that helps. Fahd -----Original Message----- From: James M.
