EWG recommends a replacement for whois - ?

Good afternoon:
Since I detect a certain uncertainty, if not a delay, as to what to do next, may I recall that ICANN has already gone to some lengths towards replacing Whois altogether.
In which case, why exactly, are we spending time on tweaking the ancient policy?
