Dear Fiona and all

I guess that we would also have to cover the locus of diversity, i.e. where within ICANN do we want to assess and improve diversity (staff, executive level, Board, councils, PDPs,…)

But perhaps this is already covered by some of the questions…

On the other hand, I feel it is worth recalling the following new Bylaw text that talks about diversity:

“(ii) Seeking and supporting broad, informed participation reflecting the functional, geographic, and cultural diversity of the Internet at all levels of policy development and decision-making to ensure that the bottom-up, multistakeholder policy development process is used to ascertain

the global public interest and that those processes are accountable and transparent;“

Best regards

Jorge

Hallo Karen

Rafik had sent you an email asking that you schedule a call for the group but it seems you may have missed it. Please advise if we can we have a call scheduled this week Thursday or Friday? It is important we kick off the discussion from where we last left off.

In preparation for the conference call Rafik and I have prepared the following to consider:

1. Definition of diversity in the ICANN context?

We need to understand what we are talking about on the various platforms email lists, staff, Board etc. Maybe not all are on the same level. What is important for us is to understand what diversity we are looking at - technical, geographiical, gender, orientation, age, minorities, time involved, education, expertise, language and culture diversity are key.

2.What areas/aspects of diversity shall we focus on?

There is a need to understand how we define  (or describe may be more realistic) diversity is needed to understand what type of data we want to collect. It could also be that different aspects of diversity could be different for different groups. As such some aspects of diversity could/should be best addressed in those groups.

3. Identification of ICANN’s diversity objectives

I think its key to have an atmosphere that is open and inclusive, so that all minorities, feel welcome.

4. What can we use as inputs?

There is quite a bit of difference on the information we had received earlier and it would be good to have a solid base. Are there aspects of diversity that are more key than others. Many people have been thinking about diversity and we should look at the literature and compare to what we have in ICANN.

5. What other experiences can we learn from?

Are there bodies that we need to consider so as to learn from them? What are the learning points?

We consider the above as a guide for our discussions that would enable us determine the time plan for our future engagement.

We shall wait for guidance from staff on the meeting schedule.

Kind regards

Fiona Asonga and Rafik Dammak
