Kieren, I came across your article in The Register: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/04/15/internet_kingmakers_cry_mercy_over_c... It surprises me (or maybe it doesn't) that you quote me, without showing the courtesy of at least informing me beforehand. Additionally, I wonder if you have announced to us all that you are participating in the CCWG as a journalist. I am not aware of that, but might have missed something. Roelof Meijer
Kieren, I have no issues with the quote attributed to me, and I like the article, even. However I agree with Roelof, that it generally speaking is time honored and good journalistic practice to inform individuals beforehand, if not ask them if they wish to make any input. Your articles might even make it into proper print media, eventually :-)-O el On 2015-04-17 08:48, Roelof Meijer wrote:

Dear Colleagues, Thanks Roelof for drawing our attention to this article. One sentence drew my attention :
the number of active participants has dropped to dangerously low levels. Levels that no one is monitoring because all those remaining in the process are too overwhelmed with work. While the sentence is not specifically targetting the CCWG, as you know staff keeps track of participation on a regular basis. With Brenda and Alice's help I can confirm that participation to CCWG calls remains consistently around 50. Below is a quick graph to illustrate this.

Dear Co-Chairs, the number of individuals logging onto Adobe only shows the number of individuals logging onto Adobe. I have asked in the past, that we analyze the mailing list(s) withe regards to this. I am not even suggesting we should ask someone to read every transcript and count the number of participants speaking up. Given that we seem to have a budget for a huge number of billable hours of at least 300 USD a pop, I really wonder why this has not been done. And this is targeting the Co-Charis not the staff. There are tools for it, ICANN has a very competent IT department, and if necessary I am sure we can find a consultant to spend the 2 hours this needs. el On 2015-04-17 10:11, Mathieu Weill wrote: [...]

Thank you Roelof for sending this interesting article and Mathieu for the illustrative graph. As DK is mentioned in this article, I would like to take the opportunity to clarify a little: We do believe that it is a challenging time line that we are working with, however, we also understand the need to keep momentum in our work - the CWG is dependent on it. Under these circumstances it becomes even more important that documents under discussion are easily available and accessible to all (also to people outside the CCWG). That was what I asked for in my initial comment. Everyone interested should be able to follow our work. Again, thanks to all involved for the hard work. Wishing you all a good weekend.
