Dear Mr. Crepin-Leblond, Thank you for this information and also the Board of ICANN for this initiative, and to our AFRALO members that are presently in Prague for supporting and endorsing this bold initiative. Without let or hindrance, it is the position of Nurses Across that Borders as an ALs that, for visible ICANN presence in Africa, the various ALses should be empowered to directly impact and promote ICANN in their various countries of origins. The present system of engagement is too bureaucratic and technical for the African region to compete with other regions that are more technically advanced than the continent. In the above regard/spirit, one only hope that, this new initiative/appointment will advance the opportunities of the Alsecs to access funding directly from ICANN to promote ICANN and its program. And ICANN should NOTE that, it is working with both the Civil Society (to which majority of the ALses belong to ) and government agencies. In an attempt by the Working Group under the coordination of Nii Quarnor of Ghana to work with the ICANN African Advisor, it should NOT be hijacked by government agencies at the detriment of the ALsecs in their countries. It is hoped that, ICANN should/will take cognizance of the politiks and intrigues commonplace in Africa. I congratulate Tarek Kamel on his appointment, Nii Quanor for his election to coordinate all these efforts and AFRALO/AFRICA to voice within the Board of ICANN. Hoping one will make it to Toronto. Our congratulations go to Dr. Tarek Kamel to serve as Senior Advisor on global issues to the ICANN President and CEO. The ICANN announcement can be found on: http://www.icann.org/en/news/announcements/announcement-10aug12-en.htm This announcement is very important since it also signals the need for AFRALO and its ALSes to realise the opportunity of this new engagement strategy. I therefore look forward to seeing ALSes in the region contribute well to this new development. The renewed interest that ICANN is showing in the region should benefit our ALSes at local level too.
