As you are already aware, AFRALO decided in its conference call of January
to hold a teleconference for the AFRALO members about the 2010 selection
of
the Director who will sit on the ICANN Board representing the At-Large
Community before the whole At-Large call on the same subject. The ALAC
chair
kindly accepted and a doodle was launched, after which the teleconference
was organized on Friday 22 January 2010 at 17:00 UTC. Unfortunately, only

AFRALO members participated in the call despite the efforts of ALAC: the
ALAC vice chair Sebastien Bacholet participated in the call to answer the
AFRALO members questions about the recommendations of the white paper
(under consultation) and address their concerns.
The recommendation 3.1 of the white paper defines an At-large Board
Selection Committee (ABSC) that will select the candidates to comprise the
election slate
This ABSC should be composed of two representatives from each ICANN region
and a Chair selected by the ALAC. All ABSC members will need to confirm
their willingness and ability to dedicate significant time to the process.
Also, the white paper recommends the creation of a small group called
At-Large Board Selection design team (ABSdt) to firmly define the
time-line
and oversee the process.
Part or all of the ALAC Executive Committee could comprise this group, but
it should not be limited to these people.
Once candidates are formally solicited, no one who has submitted his name
may participate in ABSdt deliberations.
The ABSdt, which should be created very quickly, will oversee the
formulation of the selection process as well as oversee its execution.
I propose that AFRALO appoints 2 members to integrate the ABSC, and
another
for the ABSdt.
Since the creation of the ABSdt is imminent, I proposed during the
teleconference of 22 January that Tijani be included in it.
I would be grateful if you could validate my proposal.

Comme vous le savez déjà, AFRALO avait décidé, lors de sa conférence

au conseil d'administration dICANN, et ce avant la téléconférence
regroupant toute la communauté At-Large sur le même sujet. La présidente
dALAC a été aimable et a accepté notre proposition. Un doodle a été

Ceux qui auront soumis leur nom ne pourront plus participer aux
délibérations de lABSdt.
Une fois les candidatures sont officiellement sollicitées, toute personne
qui se serait présentée ne pourrait plus faire partie de la ABSdt, et ne
pourrait participer à ses délibérations.
Le ABSdt, qui devrait être créée très rapidement, supervisera
l'élaboration
du processus de sélection et surveillera son exécution.
Je propose quAFRALO nomme 2 membres pour intégrer lABSC, et un autre
pour
lABSdt.
Eu égard au fait que la création de la ABSdt est imminente, j'ai proposé
au
cours de la téléconférence du 22 Janvier que Tijani y figurer.
Je serais reconnaissant si vous pouviez valider ma proposition.
