What does an inclusive Internet look like in Zambia? It starts in classrooms — and grows through community. The Internet Society Zambia Chapter has been at the forefront of promoting Universal Acceptance (UA) in Africa. So far, they’ve hosted four in-person events and three webinars, each playing a vital role in raising awareness and building technical capacity around UA. These efforts are bridging the digital divide and sparking important conversations about multilingual access and digital inclusion in Zambia. During Universal Acceptance Day 2025, the chapter organized a full-day training with over 40 Computer Science students from TCNP College. What began as a hands-on technical session evolved into a transformative space for learning and leadership. Participants were introduced to UA concepts, programming techniques, EAI (Email Address Internationalization), and multilingual web systems. UA Ambassador Chilufya Theresa Mulenga delivered an inspiring keynote address, urging students to imagine a digital world where every language and script is included. Tamara Bengesai facilitated engaging discussions on multilingualism and its role in digital equity, while Chapter President Levy Syanseke guided the audience through an insightful Internet Governance review — showing how young people can participate in shaping the web’s future. The impact was immediate.
