Dear Nick, Thanks for this useful information and proposed dates . Didier, this election should be done earlier as the current African ALAC representative had passed the term period which has been stated when elected in ICANN lisbon meeting where AFRALO elected 2 ALAC Representative and an AfRALO Secretariat . The AFRALO secretariat should plan this earlier and make sure seat terms not exceed agreed terms, as we need new bloods in AfRALO. It will be great if our secretariat could check other RALOs if they have an accountability framework for ALAC representative, which we can adopt in the future its important to use it to keep activity . Regards, Mo.EL Bashir
Dear Didier:
Thanks for this, however, it doesn't make clear how the region wishes to conduct the elections, how long the nomination period is for, how long the vote will be open, or the other elements that are required.
Could you please let us know:
* The length of the nomination period and the start and end date: * The length of the period for accepting nominations and the start and end date: * The length of the voting for those nominees who have accepted the nomination and the start and end date:
The Staff had recommended the following by email to the region on 3rd September 2008:
"The AFRALO instruments do not contain specific provisions governing the election process. It is therefore suggested that the following election process shall be adopted :
* The regional Secretariat will make a call for election no later than seven weeks before the start of the annual ICANN meeting (14 September 2008) * Nominations shall be accepted for two weeks after the Secretariat calls for nominations (until 28 September 2008) * The nominees need to accept their nomination no later than seven days after the nomination period ends (05 October 2008) * The election shall begin no later than one week after the end of the acceptance deadline (12 October 2008) and end not later than two weeks before the start of the annual ICANN meeting. (19 October 2008). In other words, votes would actually be cast between 12 to 19 October 2008. "

Dear all
There will be one AFRALO ALAC representative up for election this year as
Hawa Diakité's term ends at the close of the Cairo meeting. According to the MOU signed with ICANN that state that states that the length of the nomination period shall be "a reasonable period" (MOU:2) without mentioning a specific eletion date. Additionally, it states that terms shall be of one year (MOU 2) but to be in accordance with the ICANN bylaws and to allow for staggered terms, the length of the African ALAC representatives shall be set to two years.
Nommination should be done within a week time.
Kind regards
