Greetings AFRALO Colleagues, With this email, I would like to notify you that I am stepping down from my role as ALAC Member for personal and professional reasons. More information about this will be shared in due course. First and foremost, I am grateful to the AFRALO Community for believing in me and allowing us to learn about policy development together. Thank you for selecting me to join AFRALO Leadership. When I joined AFRALO Leadership in 2016, we had about 50 ALSes and zero individual members. Now, we have 68 ALSes, over 15 individual members and 3 observers. We have over 40 people attending each monthly call and have contributed to policy processes in our region and beyond. Our digital infrastructure in Africa has also improved a lot! There is so much more we can do but we have grown and we have progressed. I take with me many good memories - from the Gumboot dancers at the Johannesburg General Assembly (GA) clad in our cultural outfits, to navigating a particular city looking for halal food, and being served one whole lamb per table in Morocco (😳 can you believe it?). These experiences allowed us to laugh about getting lost and our indecision, they allowed us to bond and chat about our families/professional lives beyond ICANN. I will always remain part of this community. Who knows where we might run into each other next? Until then, thank you so much, merci beaucoup! PS: The attached picture is from 2017 at the GA in Johannesburg, South Africa. This was the last time many of our community members were gathered in one place. Best wishes, Sarah
Dear Sarah, You've been a good friend and colleague to many of us and the AFRALO community, I enjoyed working with you when you were AFRALO secretary and also during your term as ALAC member (or should I say former ALAC member). You've contributed a lot to AFRALO, At-large and ICANN community as a whole hence I share in the mixed feelings but glad that you will still be within the Internet ecosystem just with a different hat. On behalf of the AFRALO leadership, I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Regards Chair AFRALO Sent from my mobile Kindly excuse brevity and typos Every word has consequences. Hello everyone, Thank you for your kind words and wishes on the list and privately! I have received questions about what happens to the role. Since the term was supposed to run until the 2024 AGM, the idea is to find an interim replacement. I believe these details are still being worked out with Leadership, after which Staff will notify the list about next steps. Once again, thank you for being part of this part of my journey! Dear Sarah, I want to thank you for your work as an ALAC member. Our collaboration during your time as secretary of AFRALO and your participation as a mentee at the Marrakech meeting were memorable. While I understand and respect your decision, I want you to know that your presence will be missed. The positive impact you made on the wider community cannot be overstated. Thank you again for your contributions and the enjoyable experience of working together. I wish you continued success in all your endeavors, and I am confident that you will excel in whichever path you choose. Best RegardsAziz Le mardi 16 mai 2023 à 22:51:37 UTC+1, Sarah T. Thank you for selecting me to join AFRALO Leadership. When I joined AFRALO Leadership in 2016, we had about 50 ALSes and zero individual members. Dear AFRALO Family, I am amused at the outpouring of emotions over the decision of our Dear Sarah to step down as AFRALO Rep in ALAC. Without being immodest and sounding insensitive, I do not actually think it deserves the outpouring. She said she was stepping down on professional and personal grounds and still remaining within the AFRALO Family, so why are we mourning as if she has left for us for good? Without prejudice to our individual freedom of expression, this patronizing remonstrations within the family should cease. The bandwagon mentality is not what we should engage our time on at this critical stage of AFRALO. There are more serious issues confronting AFRALO, all of you are silent over this but rather would want to be in the good books of the 'King Makers' within AFRALO than challenge the status quo. That is hypocritical to me. You may hate my guts for this but it is the truth which is bitter anyway That is my ten cents. No offense. Just being a realist. I wish you all well. Dear Sarah, You have been one of the greatest family member of AFRALO I have worked with since ICANN55 and you still my coach on AFRALO secretary. However, I am also very happy about what you have achieved inside ICANN ecosystem. We are sad to know that someone great like you is leaving ATlarge community . But, we do understand that you also have your own plans in life. Wishing you the best in your future! Sincerely, Le mar. 16 mai 2023 à 22:51, Sarah T.
