While congratulating all those nominated, it must however be noted that, of 5 Regions of the world, each had a representative except Africa while one region had two nominations. How representative could this result be? This negates the democratic credentials of ICANN, and a marginalization of the African Region and it is not late for a review and a candidate from amongst the Nine nominations receieved from Africa considered. If this is not possible we demand explanations. We also continued to build on the changes seen from last year's NomCom relating to greater transparency and accountability, by having more open meetings, regular reporting to the community throughout the process and we hope developing greater trust and understanding of what ICANN's NomCom does. In our public meeting during ICANN 51 in Los Angeles we will deliver a full and comprehensive report and we look forward to having more community feedback and interaction then." Hello All, As a NomCom 2014 member, I certify that Africa had 9 candidates over 58, - 8 applied for the Board - 8 for GNSO - 6 for ccNSO - 0 for ALAC as there were no ALAC position open for Africa this year You can see that many applied for 2 to 3 positions. I participated in the entire selection process and it was done in a very fair way. African candidates had a lot of potential but this time, they were not selected because they were not the best. I will recommend that all of us start as soon as possible outreach activities to have more African candidates for 2015. I will make sure you get the information and I would even suggest that we create a small task force within AFRALO for that purpose. My may concern is to understand the specific reasons so that we can determine where the weaknesses are and why our applicant's application were not as best as others. Thanks Fatimata, I concur with Seun. Like every otter structure within ICANN , the NOMCOM should be regionally represented. By the way, when did Africa become internet reliant ? So using the same standard to evaluate qualification with those who invented and has been ahead for decades is just a way of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it. Africa should be represented and ICANN loses nothing therein. So, I think the AFRALO secretariat should express our concerns please. We should not take every excuse for marginalizing a continent as valid and well intentioned. Thank you. These six extraordinary leaders were from the 58 exceptionally high quality Statements of Interest that were received and fully completed in the extremely short (less than 60 days) application process. This year the application process itself was completely overhauled and a new online (wiki based) system developed by the 2014 Nominating Committee was piloted. We also continued to build on the changes seen from last year's NomCom relating to greater transparency and accountability, by having more open meetings, regular reporting to the community throughout the process and we hope developing greater trust and understanding of what ICANN's NomCom does. Hello Seun, Peters and All, The complaint is heard. We do not have any NomCom selectee this year from our region and I understand the frustration we all have. As Peters said it, Africa did not invent the internet and so did not other developing regions but we know how to become excellent in anything. Other developing regions went through years of learning and understanding the process and are succeeding in having nominees in ICANN high positions. That is what I am suggesting and I concur with Seun here. Let's see how we can compete better next time. Seun, the selection process is not simple. First, for a specific position, we look at profiles and compare them. External experts proceed to analyze them. A very important part of the process is devoted to interviews of the shortlisted candidates. What is required for each position is publicly known during the call for applications. Each year, the profile the board or other positions are looking for is different. As I said earlier, our candidates' profiles were very good but they did not always apply for the position that was most suited to them, or they had problems answering questions during the interviews. The answer to Seun's question about representation is Yes, the NOMCOM members consider geographic representation and also gender when doing their selection but not over quality. Let me suggest here to AFRALO officers to have a permanent agenda item on this matter on every monthly meeting, starting next meeting. This will allow us to further discuss this issue and set up a WG or Task force on outreach for more African NomCom selectees. Again, thank you for your understanding and support. Thanks Fatimata, I concur with Seun. Like every otter structure within ICANN , the NOMCOM should be regionally represented. By the way, when did Africa become internet reliant ? So using the same standard to evaluate qualification with those who invented and has been ahead for decades is just a way of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it. Africa should be represented and ICANN loses nothing therein. So, I think the AFRALO secretariat should express our concerns please. We should not take every excuse for marginalizing a continent as valid and well intentioned. Thank you.

You can see that many applied for 2 to 3 positions.
I participated in the entire selection process and it was done in a very fair way. African candidates had a lot of potential but this time, they were not selected because they were not the best.
I will recommend that all of us start as soon as possible outreach activities to have more African candidates for 2015.
