Is there something missing? Are any of these not needed? Is there anything else that one of those below should specifically cover? Do please let us know.
* Compliance - what does it do, how does it do it, what additional compliance activities will be undertaken over the next year? * New GTLDs - what categories of objection will be possible to an application, who will be able to object, and how will they be handled and by whom? * Registrar Accreditation Process: How does it work, who can apply, what is required of registrars? * What is IANA and what does it do? * How does a DNS query work, how are unscrupulous actors able to interfere with a query, and to what ends do they do so? * DNS Security: What measures to secure the DNS are available, what do they do - and what do they not do? * IANA and the US Department of Commerce: What is the nature of the relationship between them and what effect, if any, does it have on day-to-day operations of the DNS? * Fast Flux - what is it and how does it work? * Delegation and Redelegation of TLDs: what is it and how does it work?
A few other things that come to mind....
- Domain registration and IP... what is the relationship between domain ownership and trademarks?
- Internationalized domain names ... how, how soon, and will existing uses of the Internet be affected?
[NAH] There is an existing policy brief on IDNs at present I¹d propose that rather than revisit that document (which does cover these subjects to some degree at least), we concentrate on new briefs. What do you think?
- Along with delegation and redelegation of TLDs... what is the process in place if a TLD fails?
[NAH] I would imagine that this would get covered by default but I¹ll certainly add this point in to make sure.
- Privacy versus accountability -- how much is the public entitled to know about the ownership of domains?
[NAH] I am not sure how a policy issue brief could be produced by the staff on this subject as it seems to me that there are a broad range of answers depending upon one¹s point of view, but I will have a word internally and see what I hear and get back to you.
I may think of more later.
[NAH] Please feel free to send ideas on the subject whenever you have them :)
