Tijani, You said "First of all, I said that I propose to review the RoP to make the Chair propose the 4 ALT members to the ALAC members for their approval since the role of the ALT is only organization and facilitation, not substantive decision making." I believe that the RoP already works this way -- the Chair (or any other ALAC member) can nominate potential ALT members, but the ALAC must approve the ALT membership, either by consensus or (if consensus can't be reached) secret ballot. Are you proposing something different? Thanks! Greg On Tue, Oct 7, 2025 at 4:25 AM Tijani BEN JEMAA via ALAC <alac@icann.org> wrote:

Second, I’m not criticizing Jonathan who I do support because he is an innovative leader. I’m speaking about any Chair who influences the decision of the group he is leading by putting forward his choices and then ask the group if they have other proposals. This is not the *standard ALAC process of Consensus* *which requires a call for volunteer to fill the vacant positions for all the group members to volunteer or to nominate other members, and then the whole group decides who should fill the position.*
*The difference is that when the chair starts by nominating, any other member who wanted to volunteer will feel intimidated and wouldn’t volunteer because he/she knows that people will follow the Chair directive for different reasons, and we end by having always the Chair preferences occupying all the positions (liaisons to other constituencies, etc.).*
*For the record, I don’t know if the chairs of the BMSPC and the BCEC are already selected, and if they are, who are they. I know that a call for volunteers for members of these committees has been done but still don’t know who has been selected to be member of each of these committees.*
*Also, I don’t know who has been selected to be the At-Large members of the Review of reviews; I volunteered and I was notified that I wasn’t selected, but never saw the 2 accepted names.*
*Transparency is of essence in my opinion, but perhaps it’s only me who is not informed because of a communication issue.*
*Best*

Tijani, where is the breach? Jonathan's message made it clear that nominations would be accepted for a week. And he pointed to the RoP which state that if there are multiple candidates from a region, the decision would be made by consensus if possible, or if not by secret ballot.
Jonathan MAY have been hoping that his candidates would receive consensus, but his hope does not alter the RoP.
