Olivier, Thank you for the nomination, your praise and for the vote of confidence. I accept the nomination. The ALAC has been very fortunate in its recent Chairs. Over the last seven years, the ALAC and At-Large has been led by Cheryl and Olivier, individuals who have tirelessly and passionately worked to make At-Large an important and effective part of ICANN, and to advance the causes of users in the ICANN ecosystem. Note that I have carefully said "Lead" and not "Manage", and that has been crucial. You willingness to accept a position of Vice-Chair is very much appreciated, and I hope that the ALAC will take you up on that. Should the ALAC choose to make me the next Chair, I commit to working with a similar level of energy and passion, and I hope that history will also see me as an effective leader. I clearly do not have ALL of the proper qualifications, since my initials are not a permutation of C, L and O. But I will work hard to overcome this failing! I ask that Staff forward this message to ALAC-Announce in accordance with the Chair selection rules. With thanks, Alan At 20/08/2014 01:06 PM, Olivier MJ Crepin-Leblond wrote:
Dear all,
as At-Large Staff are launching the process of the ALAC Selecting its Chair and its Leadership Team, I have come to a crossroads: either I emit my interest for the Chair position for possibly another two years, or I do what Cheryl Langdon Orr, former ALAC Chair, has done so well, which is to nominate someone as a successor and remain involved as a Vice Chair (if nominated when the time comes), making sure At-Large continues to grow in every sense of the word.
I would therefore like to respectfully nominate Alan Greenberg for ALAC Chair because in our community, Alan is the most knowledgeable person I know, who is an expert about ICANN, its history and its processes as well as the policy development taking place in the GNSO. Alan is also an expert in ICANN's accountability processes since he was Vice Chair of the ATRT2. Through his many years of work at ICANN, in so many working groups, Alan is very well known and respected throughout the ICANN Community so he will have no problem continuing to use all of the channels necessary for the ALAC to continue its growth, both in size, in involvement and in influence.
Most important of all, Alan has the ability to devote more time to ALAC matters than anyone else in our community - and he has demonstrated this commitment on many occasions in the past. He is well known in our community to be exceptionally hard working and committed to the At-Large cause - and in his position as ALAC Liaison to the GNSO he has demonstrated his ability to act as the voice of At-Large on many challenging issues. I have no reservations in nominating him.
Kind regards,
Olivier MJ Crépin-Leblond

Dear All,
The At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) Rules of Procedure (RoP - <http://tinyurl.com/ALAC-RoP-2013-04>http://tinyurl.com/ALAC-RoP-2013-04) call for the ALAC Chair to be elected for one year, but subject to certain conditions, may automatically renewed for one additional year. As Olivier Crépin-Leblond was elected to serve as Chair for 2012-13, and was automatically renewed for 2013-14, this year there must be a new election.
Nominations are now open for individuals to serve as the Chair of the ALAC. Nominations may be made by any ALAC Member. Nominees need not be an ALAC Member at the time of the nominations, but must have an expectation of being an ALAC Member after the completion of the upcoming Los Angeles ICANN Meeting.
Nominations will close on 03 September 2014 at 23:59 UTC.
Nominations need not be seconded, but it is an ALAC tradition that others may second the nomination as a show of agreement with the nomination.
Nominations other than self-nominations must be accepted within seven days after the close of nominations. Acceptance should be sent to the <mailto:alac@atlarge-lists.icann.org>alac@atlarge-lists.icann.org. Nominees without access to that list should send their acceptance to <mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org>staff@atlarge.icann.org.
According to the ALAC RoP, following the nominations/acceptance period, a Selection Summary will be posted giving the details of the following process. The selection of the four other ALAC Leadership Team members will be initiated once the selection of the Chair is completed.
