Good morning Sandra and all, First of all, I apologize for the late reply. Did the second phase of the WSIS held in Tunis contributed to the development of the use of social media in Tunisia such as Facebook? Yes it contributed, but wasnt determinant in the Tunisian revolution: Internet was already well used in Tunisia, and its use evolved normally as the social media evolved. The most important element that made the revolution happen was the tyranny of Ben Ali and his family added to the social condition of the Tunisians that deteriorate. When Ben Ali felt that facebook is used against his regime, he simply blocked it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tijani BEN JEMAA Executive Director Mediterranean Federation of Internet Associations (FMAI) Phone: +216 98 330 114 Mobile: +216 41 649 605 Fax: +216 70 825 231 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- De : sandra hoferichter [mailto:info@hoferichter.eu] Envoyé : dimanche 14 octobre 2012 20:50 À : 'Tijani BEN JEMAA'; 'ALAC Working List' Objet : AW: [ALAC] Fwd: ICANN News Alert -- ICANN Consolidated Meetings Strategy Proposal I have a question to Tijani in this regard: Was hosting the 2nd WISIS in Tunisia one drop in the bowl for the Facebook revolution (or Arabic spring) years later? What is your personal opinion on this? Sandra Von: Tijani BEN JEMAA [mailto:tijani.benjemaa@fmai.org] Gesendet: Sonntag, 14. Alan, do you mean that its useless to have meetings in those country???? I disagree with this approach, and still think that the principle of rotating the meetings over the 5 regions as much as possible is a priority. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tijani BEN JEMAA Executive Director Mediterranean Federation of Internet Associations (FMAI) Phone: +216 98 330 114 Mobile: +216 41 649 605 Fax: +216 70 825 231 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tijani BEN JEMAA Executive Director Mediterranean Federation of Internet Associations (FMAI) Phone: +216 98 330 114 Mobile: +216 41 649 605 Fax: +216 70 825 231 -------------------------------------------------------------------------
