Dear Sebastien,
Many thanks for your question. During ICANN 61 in San Juan Puerto Rico, the Regional Organizations that represent Country Code Top Level Domain Registries (Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Organization, Africa Top Level Domains Organization, Latin America and the Caribean Top Level Domain Organization and the Council for European National Top Level Domain Registries (CENTR)) presented findings of a survey that had been conducted across the four regions which elicited responses from 50 ccTLDs. This was in addition to a presentation made by Pablo Rodriguez from .PT who were the local hosts which was centered around how the registry managed to continue with business despite the the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria following a question that emanated from the ALAC on how registries handle customer domains that need to be renewed during a disaster.
The survey and presentations elicited a lot of interest in the ccNSO which resulted in the council mandating TLD OPS a standing commitee of the ccNSO that acts as the nerve centre for monitoring security incidents and vulnerabilities that affect ccTLDs thus assisting ccTLD managers to resolve the same to come up with a roadmap that would guide the ccNSO on disaster recovery strategies.
At the just concluded member meeting , a full session entitled* Natural disasters, disaster recovery and business continuity planning* chaired by Jacques Latour from the Canadian registry was dedicated to disaster recovery with presentations from the following registries:
- Proposed next steps by the TLD-OPS Standing Committee. *Régis Massé (.fr)* - .pr Registry impact. *Pablo Rodriguez (.pr)* - .dk Disaster Recovery Plan overview. *Erwin Lansing (.dk)* - .ca Critical Event Plan overview. *Jacques Latour (.ca)* - .fr Business Continuity Plan overview. *Régis Massé (.fr)*
ccNSO members approved a proposal by TLD OPS to explore policy optons that would help ccTLDs to deal with disasters over and above business continuity plans. This discussion will continue in the ccTLD (Business aspects) and in Tech Day (Technical aspects). Techday and the ccNSO members meeting are open to ALAC members to participate and contribute.
Thank you
Best Regards
