By the way, do you know when in 2012 the studies are due to be completed. I would be most interested in reading the Reports.
Don't off-hand know. Would have to do some research first.
I would be grateful.

Hi Alan, I have yet to go through all the Studies and promise to do when I have sufficient bandwidth. I note that the deadlines have shifted from the 2012 which was in the Whois Review Team's Final Report to 2013 in some instances. Not that it is a big deal as deadlines shift all the time. I assume that this would affect the metrics you were talking about. I am not altogether fussed as I know that when the new gTLDs become operational, at least, Whois collection and updating can commence straight away. Kind Regards, Sala On Wed, Sep 5, 2012 at 3:50 PM, Alan Greenberg <alan.greenberg@mcgill.ca>wrote:

@ Alan, I went through the link [was trying to do other work but was too curious] and went through the Terms of Reference for the Studies that were issued for some as early as 2010. Perhaps, this would be a good time to push for results. In my view the sample space that is used for the modelling are pretty basic and should not take the Team of Experts who are retained long to finish. Perhaps it would be good to get abbreviated updates from the Teams commissioned to undertake these studies. Also in light of the pending finalisations of these reports, I would recommend that At Large consolidate all complaints about the misuse of Whois and sift the material appropriately, noting that bulk of the analysis have been done by Garth and chanelled into these Studies so that they are factored in to the report. We do not have to wait for the Report to be published to pollinate our concerns which have been aerated for quite along time. With that dear Alan, there ends my submissions and comments on your call for feedback in this matter. Best Regards, Sala P.S I hope I get to come to Toronto, I hate having to send my passport to the Land Down Under and just the thought that it could get lost in the mail. I really don't know why the Canadian Government can't do what the Kenyan Government did for us at the IGF last year in that it allowed us to apply and collect our visas on arrival. You would think that the GAC Chair being Canadian could help to facilitate this with the Immigration....ah well enough of me whinging...Hugs to all xx On Wed, Sep 5, 2012 at 5:01 PM, Salanieta T. Now there's a useful suggestion for further aeration. I shall put the question on the agenda of the WHOIS WG meeting at Toronto. Maybe, Sala, you'd come along and own this? Excellent. So maybe in between now and Toronto, we as At Large can
consolidate the material and the minute they say, "yes of course", we can hand things over so it can be recorded.
Maybe, Sala, you'd come along and own this?
Subject to visa approval, will definitely be happy to come along
Best - Carlton

@ Alan at the time the Studies were being commissioned the community was advised that those studies cost $530,000. [See last paragraph of page 36 of the Report]. I am wondering if the delay in concluding the Report has increased this allocation. Just something you could also keep an eye out for, not that we are paying for it. :) On Wed, Sep 5, 2012 at 3:50 PM, Alan Greenberg <alan.greenberg@mcgill.ca>wrote:

Don't you think that. Any costs will ultimately end up passed on to the end users registering domain names. Customers keep this industry alive. Kind regards, Olivier

Excellent point. I am not sure who paid at this stage whether it was ICANN or the GNSO. You are absolutely right, there is a greater likelihood that it will be passed down to registrants, hence the need to monitor this closely.
Kind regards,
