Thanks Olivier, you beat me to it. You will all recall that at the ALAC-Board meeting in Marrakech, Cherine Chalably had suggested that perhaps instead of forming a new group to inspect the Category 1, SG 1-8 TLDs, that the task could be referred to either or both of the CCT Review Team and the GNSO new gTLD PDP, and he suggested that a phone call be set up the following week to discuss this. That was done and I met with Cherine, Thomas Schneider and James Bladel last week. A summary of that meeting will be distributed shortly, but the letter that Olivier attached was the result. Although the Board cannot instruct either the RT or the PDP to do anything, the letter does set some expectations. Moreover, I was very please when, on this week's meeting of the GTLD PDP, Jeff, Neuman, one of the co-chairs, presented a brief summary of the issues to be discussed in the PDP< and the issue of such "special" TLDs was covered very well. Dear Alan, thank you for your follow-up on this matter. It is good to see that, after so much time going around playing cat and mouse and turning in circles, things are actually moving. I can't say that I am 100% pleased because I deplore the fact that so much time was taken to make us lose our time whilst contracts were being signed in the meantime -- which leaves a bitter after-taste. I am also worried in the back of my mind, that this is another way to kick the cork ahead a few more months, years, to keep us running after it. But let's remain positive! So we're set on a two-pronged track: - CCT-RT - PDP on next gTLD rounds In my opinion, we need to keep the same group of people to support BOTH tracks, otherwise I am pretty sure that the issue will be quietly dropped between the two tracks... as things sometimes are. How are we going to strategize this? Which working group in ALAC will follow this closely and support our representatives in both the Review Team and the PDP Working Group? - New gTLD Working Group? - Registration Issues Working Group? - Newly established Public Interest Working Group? Looking forward to your kind reply. Kindest regards, Olivier On 23/03/2016 05:04, Alan Greenberg wrote:

On the last ALT call, Maureen volunteered to put together a document which we (the ALAC) can use to put our WG/SC/TFs in order. I am not going to predict the detailed outcome, but it is essential that we get this done quickly and I expect that to happen. For this particular task, I think it is most important to identify the PEOPLE who will work with Kaili and Carleton for the CCT-RT and who will be personally participating in the PDP. You and I clearly cannot avoid being in both categories, but we should have others. Perhaps Evan has the time, but I suspect not. Clearly if someone volunteers to work on this, the two of us will be glad to help them get up to speed. And I think the two of us (and Evan) should try to identify good candidates and try to get them involved. Alan At 23/03/2016 06:43 AM, Olivier MJ Crepin-Leblond wrote:

Dear Jonathan, Avri, Stephen, and Jeff,
Please find the attached letter from Steve Crocker on behalf of the ICANN Board regarding concerns raised by the ALAC and GAC around the effectiveness of the contracted PICs for the GAC Category 1, Safeguard 1-8 TLDs (“Safeguard PICs”).

Dear colleagues I am already attending GNSo newgTLDs WG, since I was quite involved here in the application of the new gTLD process + implementation , for one client ( successful I am glad) . I certainly can join the PDP. (I have been involved into the former GNSO - OSC group - Council procedures group… on the review of GNSO) and I also believe we need to have a close group working in all of this including Kaili (+Carlton) at Consumers Trust, to defending same points of view or we will find us in a mess of opinions in a short period of time, or overloading same colleagues. GNSO new gTLd is now dividing its amount of work on Stream 1 and subsequent numbers to make the work more efficient. Hope it will help since those large groups are anything but efficient. Happy Easter Holiday to ALL, since majority of cultures and religions celebrate some important date around this time of the year ( beginning of sping/autum) whatever your celebration, enjoy it with lots of happiness together with your family and friends!. Kindest regards, Olivier On 23/03/2016 05:04, Alan Greenberg wrote: Thanks Olivier, you beat me to it.
