I write to you in roles as the chairs of the ASO, ccNSO, GNSO and ALAC. You are likely already aware that last Thursday the ICANN Board passed the resolution realigning the terms of the Board seats your organizations fill, and you will receive further correspondence through regular official channels, but I also wanted to pass the news myself and offer a brief comment.

With this change, the seating of the Board members you appoint is aligned with the seating of Board members appointed by the Nomcom. Thus all voting seats, except for the CEO, will be for three years beginning and end with the Annual General Meeting (AGM). We will now have three voting seats being selected each year, two or three by the Nomcom, two by the SOs, and one by At-Large during the years the Nomcom selects two.

A key provision of this change is your selection of Board members is unchanged. The original reason for the offset was to provide information to the Nomcom on the geographic balance of the Board. The Nomcom still needs that information, so your selection process should proceed on the same schedule it always has.

In the upcoming year, Bruce Tonkin's and Kuo-Wei Wu's terms expire. Under the prior rule, their terms would have expired in April. Under the new rule, their terms expire in November. Similar extensions apply to the others in the following years.

I am pleased this change moved through the process smoothly. while it is not our most important piece of work this year, it will helpful in smoothing Board operations. In particular, I believe it will actually enhance the position of the SO and At-Large appointed Board members. In the past these Board members have sometimes been unable to move into leadership positions during the their first half year and sometimes have stepped down from from leadership positions during their last half year.

Let me also take this opportunity to thank you for your extraordinary dedication and leadership. It has been and will continue to be a pleasure to work with all you.
