Dear Karaitiana, According to the transcription of the APRALO GA in Mexico City in March 2009, it was decided to have two Vice-Chairs with staggered two year terms. Since both Vice-Chairs were elected at the same time, it was further agreed that the first term for one of the positions should be for one year. All the following terms will be for two years. Les Allison was elected for a one year term and Mahmoud Lattouf was elected for a two year term. (You can find an excerpt of page 47 of the APRALO GA transcription attached below). The full transcript is available under: http://mex.icann.org/files/meetings/mexico2009/transcript-apralo-03mar09-en. pdf It is my understanding that two calls for elections should be made: - For a two year term for the position of Vice-Chair (currently held by Les Allison) - For the remainder of the two year term of the position previously held by Mahmoud Lattouf The APRALO operating principles do not contain provisions on the election timetable for the officer positions. I suggest that APRALO uses the timetable we used for the RALO officer elections in 2009: - Nomination period: Nominations shall be accepted for four weeks after the Secretariat calls for nominations - Acceptance deadline: The nominees need to accept their nomination no later than seven days after the nomination period ends - Election deadline: The election shall begin no later than one week after the end of the acceptance deadline and end no later than two weeks later ************* Transcription of APRALO GA in Mexico 03 March 2009, Page 47: Karaitiana: Right, Les has just offered himself for a one-year term for Vice-Chair, we¹re just seeking. Siva: Yeah, Cheryl said that the two candidates should be geographically apart, and they are seated next to each other, so I object. [laughter] Karaitiana: [Inaudible 06:15] Good. Can we have a show of hands, those who are in favour of Les being Vice-Chair for one year, please. Holly: Oh, you¹re voting for him, put your hand up. Karaitiana: So there is... Cheryl: You vote for yourself. Oh yeah, you can vote for yourself. Male: No, I¹m voting for him. Karaitiana: Yes, so it¹s unanimous for yes. And for Mohamed for two years as Vice-Chair person...? Cheryl: Just a point of order for the record. Please note that when Hong puts her hand up, she is voting for two organizations. Karaitiana: Okay, again, that¹s unanimous, so congratulations to Mohamed and Les for your Vice-Chair positions. It¹s going to be a pleasure to work with both of you. Great. Thank you. ******** Best Regards, -- Matthias Langenegger Manager, At-Large Regional Affairs Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Email: matthias.langenegger@icann.org Main Tel: +41 (79) 644 65 35 Fax: +41 (22) 594 85 44 Skype ID: matthiaslangenegger On 31/03/2010 08:17, "Karaitiana Taiuru" <karaitiana@taiuru.maori.nz> wrote:
Dear all,
Mahmoud A. Lattouf our Vice Chair has sent his apologoies to APRALO as he can no longer act as our Vice Chair and has great difficulty committing to our monthly meetings. I thank Mahmoud for his input while he was available.
As part of the plan to get greater representation from APRALO across the board on ICANN consultations we require a new Vice Chair. Please submit names and suggestions to the list. I am still awaiting staff to let me know the formal procedures. But the candidate should be prepared to travel and to take ownership of certain ICANN consultations.
Please contact me in person for a confidential discussion if you so wish.
