Dear all, I quite agree with the agenda forwarded by Edmond. Further it is important that the intial financial nuances should also be added as a part of substantive discussion: We need to have clarity on the issues like what other actvities are ALSes permitted to indulge in order to fund their activities undertaken for ICANN. We also need to arrive at a clear understanding that in view of the exsistence of GACs, the local government is not keen to forward any financial assistence (at least this is so in case of India and i think in case of other developng countries as well). We have to understand that the procurement of funding from corporate sector is likely to adversely affect the neutrality of the ALSes in their operations. We also need to understand that whether we foresee ALSes as substantive organisation who could assist ICANN on one hand and also lobby for great consumer / end user rights with the local governments, which would certainly require financial independence from any local body in order to work freely and fairly. Adding to Edmond's 'inter ALSes' point, i feel it would be great if each ALSes have its own website through which not only can they collect views on ICANN policy but can also put forward the policy initiative taken by their local authorities/government, this information exchange will in turn lead to a revolutionary change in the the policy development on intenational level with a concensus at local level. Thus, in case i am not able to attend the conference at hong kong due to non availability of adequate funding, i would be greatful taht this angle of the functioning of various ALSes is duely deliberated. I was originally thinking only AM, however, it seems like a full day meeting may be a good idea. That being said, I do have another event planned for the afternoon, but we can have representative from ISOC HK for the whole day I believe. Nick mentioned that ICANN will reserve a room for the whole day for us.
As for agenda, here are some of the things I have in mind (not even a draft agenda yet):
- policy input process - identification of issues - development of statements - role of APRALO vs ALSes - mechanism of consolidating / summarizing input - mechanism of presenting statements, etc. - actual policy input - New gTLD process (application and evaluation) - Domain tasting - IDN - others? (Nick? Any suggestion?) - inter-ALS activities - general outreach efforts - recruitment of ALSes - vetting of ALSes (process) - apralo.org website

What is the meeting agenda? The meeting will run from 900am to 530pm on 7/25? Please let us know, so I can reserve my schedule (I believe the others have the similar issues).

Hi Everyone,
ICANN has confirmed to support the venue as well as to provide US$5000 financial support for the meeting:
- July 25, 2007 (Wednesday) - Hong Kong - Sheraton (www.sheraton.com/HongKong)
What this means is that it should cover everyone's accommodation (see attached email for hotel booking at the ICANN venue hotel) for 2 nights. If we have left from the accommodation, we may allocate some money to everyone's travel
budget as well.
Would be great to have all of you here!
Please let me know who can come to the meeting.
Edmon
