John, Patrick and all, I have to agree with John here largely. The IETF has largely been less than well informed on a number of topics and issues for several years. However the IETF feels it is the standards organization that does the informing. So there is a bit of a cunundrem here. Chicken or egg, as it were... John Levine wrote:

I have to say that what particularly impressed me about the discussion on the IETF list was how utterly uninformed most of it was. You didn't miss much.
