Thx Joanna! A potentially good thing I see in 0 draft is a mention of environmental impacts (and mitigation of impacts) of ICTs as part of the GDC’s SDG-focus. I hope that discussion will truly happen and that the voice of stakeholders that are particularly affected by climate-impacts are in the room (for example, citizens and governments of Small Island Developing States and Territories). Hi all,
I thought it might be useful to share the Global Digital Compact zero draft released on Monday (April 1st - do read the document and decide whether the date is coincidental or not ;): https://www.un.org/techenvoy/sites/www.un.org.techenvoy/files/Global_Digital...
As you are well aware, the Global Digital Compact aims to address contemporary challenges, including the potential for misuse and the exacerbation of existing inequalities. by promoting an inclusive, open, safe, and secure digital future for all. The zero draft outlines the objectives, commitments, and actions necessary to achieve this goal. It builds upon the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, providing a strong foundation for digital cooperation.
A good summary can be found here: https://dnsrf.org/blog/what-to-look-out-for-in-the-zero-draft-of-the-global-... .
Thanks for reading, have a great rest of the week!
