With or without RALOs, these are concrete issues of concern to individual Internet users. Should ALAC be writing reports, starting PDPs, or just letting its users' concerns lie? (I vote against the last option...)
I think that these are very important matters, and as I said, I raised some of them to the Board and there is a lively debate. Please be aware that, generally speaking, there is a "pro-laissez-faire" attitude that assumes that what ICANN has to do is "more education" and then... it's the registrant's responsibility to pick a good registrar (or reseller). Some even suggested that ICANN should ask someone to publish reviews or give marks to each registrar's reliability... Coming from a different culture, I rather think that ICANN, as the regulator of this market, has the duty of providing and enforcing strict guidelines to registrars and resellers. I think that, as ALAC, we should release a statement to this effect as soon as possible. Is there anyone that would like to lead the effort to draft such statement? I'd be happy if you did it, for example. -- vb. Vittorio Bertola - vb [a] bertola.eu <-------- --------> finally with a new website at http://bertola.eu/ <--------
