Adobe Connect Pro simply does not work on Linux 64 bit.
I was on a call with Kieren last week on the same system, and I understood that the Adobe package was an experiment. (It worked alright for me on Vista 64.) If there is something better, please let Kieren know. I think he is open to anything better and reliably cross-platform.
The system used by Milton et al at Syracuse seems like a good one.
Adobe seems to have a resistance to Linux in general and 64-bit Linux in specific, even their flash player on 64-bit is an "experiment".
It's just been my experience, after numerous systems, that anyone running 64-bit Linux on a desktop is generally looking for trouble. I run the 32-bit version on my desktops and 64-bit on the servers. It's not just Flash that causes problems, there are some video codecs that are unavailable as well, the Java VM has caused some problems for people, and many apps on a "64-bit" system are still just 32bits. All this for a negligible performance boost. RAM addressing is also no longer an issue because a 32-bit kernel can now be configured to use 64GB of RAM. So why bother? FWIW. I have no (more) problems with Adobe Connect, I've even run a meeting with it under Linux (current 32bit Kubuntu 9.04, acroread 9.1.3). I have another system running 9.10 beta, I'll give that a try too. Now... having said all this... Adobe does not support Linux systems for Connect presenters .. if a usable alternative exists we should consider it, most of what I've seen is remote teaching tools. If you're in Seoul I'll be happy to help with it. The full release of 9.10 will actually happen Oct 29 ... during the Seoul week. - Evan
