I was honored to serve as one of the ALAC's first NomComm members. Based on that experience, I can say that this report has a number of good suggestions about treating candidates with more respect, clarifying the rules for selection, requiring NomComm members to commit to a certain level of effort, and clarifying the role of staff support to the NomComm. But, in my view, this proposal places *much* too much importance on the role of a new proposed staff member, NomComm Administrative Director, who will select the slate of candidates from which the NomComm must choose. And I can't see how randomly selecting NomComm members from an indeterminate pool of self-selected volunteers is a good idea. Yes, I know that the IETF/IAB uses similar random procedures, but sooner or later, just as monkeys at typewriters will produce Shakespeare, random will produce a panel of 15 lawyers. Sheesh. Bret
