Both of Evan's points below seem self-evident. But I don't see that there's such a great danger - all they are saying is that they'll open up a few non-controversial gTLDs to get the process going.. I guess 'consensus' means following the path of least resistance. Once things are underway, given the obvious problems of administering morality, one suspects that path will involve a sharp u-turn. As such, the current policy, with its allowance of morality-based objections, serves to RESTRICT diversity -- or at least reduce it to that which offends nobody.

Just the opposite.
It is those who can see no further than "Yay! New TLDs!", without seeing the greater danger of ICANN being involved in morality (even if the actual judgement is outsourced), who are short sighted.
